1 About this Document
After the HCIA experiment has been standard, the experimental equipment was determined. In
consideration of demand for the upgrading of teaching materials and the compatibility with the HCIP-
Datacom, generating a list of experimental equipment and physical connection topology.
This guide provides supporting information for HAINA, regional offices, suppliers, and Huawei Authorized
Learning Partners (HALP) for the purchase of equipment, installation of modules, cables, and configuration
of related equipment required for construction of the Huawei HCIA lab environment, and aid in supporting
the corresponding lab training, as part of the Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) course.

2 The HCIA Lab Topology

3 Equipment Purchasing
You must purchase the equipment based on the lab requirements. If you have any doubt, send email to
[email protected].

4 Cable Connection
The equipment must be connected based on the topology shown in Figure 2-1.
Ensure that the correct models are used for the different types of equipment based on the mapping
provided in .

5 Problems Caused by Non-standard Equipment

You must use the standard equipment contained on the equipment list in HCIA-Datacom V1.0 Equipment
List.
The non-standard equipment may cause problems, including but not limited to the following items:
1. The commands may be found to be incompatible, or the interface names are not consistent with the ones
in the lab guide.
2. Parts of the lab results cannot be displayed.
3. The non-standard equipment is not compatible with the lab guide or learning materials of later versions.

6 Remote management

6.1 Cable Connection and Configuration

If you want to remotely manage the experiment devices, you can purchase an AR6140E router and configure two
8-port asynchronous serial interface cards. The AR6140E can be used as a serial port server for unified
management and connect the AR6140E to your network. You can use Telnet to connect and manage the serial
ports of all devices.

4
6.1.1 Serial port server connection topology

Connect the serial port of the experiment device to the asynchronous serial port of the AR6140E (the card needs to
be purchased separately). Configure the serial port server on the AR6140E, and connect the AR6140E to your
network. The management terminal can access the IP address-oriented management port of the AR6140E through
Telnet to remotely manage the serial port of the experiment device.
The cable used to connect the serial port and asynchronous serial port of the experimental equipment is a
dedicated cable. The cable sequence is mentioned below. You can make the cable by yourself.

6.1.2 Example for Configuring a Serial Port Server

For details about how to configure the serial port server, see the following example:
1. Configuring the Async Port
interface Async5/0/0
undo detect dsr-dtr
async mode flow
Configure the port mode.

2. Configuring TTY
user-interface tty 33
undo shell
idle-timeout 0 0
redirect enable
redirect listen-port 3001

Set the redirection port number of TTY 33 to TCP 3001.

Configure the connection between the AR6140E and the user network.

5
After the preceding configuration, you can use Telnet to access the IP address and TCP port 3001 of the AR6140E
to access the serial port of the experiment device connected to Async5/0/0. In this way, you can remotely manage
the serial port of the AR6140E.

6.2 Console cable preparation

Both ends of the dedicated cable must be RJ-45 connectors. You are advised to manually prepare the cable. The
method of manufacturing is based on the method of manufacturing straight-through twisted pair. The line
sequence follows the table below.

7 Precautions
After the instructor conducts training of the learning materials, the students are expected to independently
carry out and complete the steps listed in the HCIA Lab Guide. If any fault occurs, the students should
ask for troubleshooting support from the instructor.
For all the AR6121E routers, interface GE0/0/0~GE0/0/7 are switch port by default, instructor should
configure them to be layer three port by using command ’undo portswitch’ and save as default
configuration.
In the experiment, in order to avoid the influence of residual configuration on the experiment, after the
completion of the experiment, students should delete the equipment configuration information before
closing the equipment; at the same time, at the beginning of the experiment, confirm the equipment from
the empty configuration, or perform configuration empty, and restart the equipment.
