Problem 2 - [3 points]:
Consider VI=8V, vi(t)= 0.05sin1t (V) in the circuit shown in Fig. 2. Assume that the diodes have
a 0.7 V drop when the ac signal vi(t) is reduced to 0.
a. [1 pt] Find the dc voltages VO in the circuit.
b. [0.5 pt] Find the small-signal resistances (the ac resistances rd) of the diodes (consider
identical diodes with n=2 and VT 25mV)
c. [1.5 pts] Write the mathematical expression for the total instantaneous voltage vO(t).

Problem 3 - [4.5 points]:
Figure 3 shows a regulator circuit. D1 has VZO=5V and rZ =100 W and IZK = IZmin =0.5mA. The
input source vS(t) = 25 + 5 sin(260t) (V) (vS(t) has a nominal voltage VS = 25 V and a ripple
equal to vs(t) =5 sin(260t) (V)).
a. [2.5 pts] Find the nominal DC voltage VO (1.5pts) and verify that your assumption for the
region of operations of D1 is correct (1pts).
b. [2 pts] find the line regulation (vo/vs) (1.5pt) defined as the change in vO due to change in the
power supply vS and deduce the total output voltage vO(t) (0.5pt).

Problem 4 [3.5 points]:
A 60-Hz sinusoidal signal of 10-Vrms, obtained from the power outlet is used as an input to a
bridge rectifier with a filtering capacitor. The average load current is expected to be 30mA. Use
a constant voltage model with VD = 0.7V for the diodes.
a. [3.5 pts] Find the ripple voltage (2.5pts), the average output dc voltage (0.5pt), and the peak
current through the diode (0.5pt), if a 250-F filtering capacitor is used in the circuit.
Problem 5 [5 points]:
Assume constant voltage model with VD = 0.7V for the diodes and R=10kW in Fig. 5.

a. [3.5 pts] Analyze the circuit in Fig.5 and plot clearly the transfer function vO versus vI when vI
changes over the range of 10V (Explain by equations how you obtain this plot).
b. [1.5 pts] From the results obtained in (a), sketch, with clear labels and values, the waveform
resulting at the output for an 8 V peak, 100 Hz sinusoid applied to the input.
