Concept Proposal

I. Proposed Topic

The paper will inform the student about the effects of alcohol

consumption on them. On how it will affect their health and academic

performance in class. In order to come up with solutions, the researcher will

first need to know why the students continue to consume alcohol. The

purpose of this study is to raise awareness among senior high school

students about the negative effects of alcohol consumption.

II. Proposed Title

The Effects of Alcohol Consumption Towards the Academic Performance

of the Senior High School Students

The study will be conducted at Professional Academy of the Philippines.

(PAP). It is located along the South National Highway in Barangay South

Poblacion, City of Naga, Province of Cebu and a 5 minutes walk from the Naga

City proper.

IV. Research Topic Brief Description

Alcohol has historically, and continues to, hold an important role in

social engagement and bonding for many. Social drinking or moderate alcohol

consumption for many is pleasurable.

However, alcohol consumption – especially in excess – is linked to a

number of negative outcomes: as a risk factor for diseases and health impacts;

crime; road incidents; and for some, alcohol dependence. To sum up, drinking

alcohol can have a detrimental effect on a student's academic performance.

through affecting cognitive processes, raising absenteeism, and lowering focus

and motivation. Consequences of long-term binge drinking include academic

expulsion.

V. Reasons for Choosing the Topic

Students nowadays like to consume alcohol because they believe that

this is one of the ways to relieve stress. Regardless of the consequences,

students still consume alcohol to satisfy themselves. This can lead to

negative outcomes and affect the students’ academic performance. The

know the effects of alcohol consumption to the academic performance of the

raise awareness of how alcohol consumptions affect the students 4.) To raise

Students today tend to drink more and do not think how this can affect

them. Students should be aware how alcohol consumption affects their

academic performance. Although alcohol can be beneficiary, but this can lead

to negative outcomes especially when drinking heavily.

VI. Initial Problem Statement

This study aims to evaluate the effects of alcohol consumption to the

academic performance of senior high school students of the Professional

Academy of the Philippines. Thus, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What are the effects of alcohol consumption to the academic achievements

of the senior high students?

2. What are the reasons for the senior high school students to consume

alcohol?

3. How does alcohol consumption affect the lives of the senior high school

students?

4. Based on the findings of this study, how will this paper be able to provide

solutions to the problems in regards to the alcohol consumption of the senior

high school students?

The respondents of the study are the senior high school students in the

Professional Academy of the Philippines.

VIII. Who will Benefit from the Study

This study aims to provide information regarding the effects of alcohol

consumption on Senior High School students in Professional Academy of the

Philippines. By this means, this is benefitted to the following:

Students. The students will be informed about the effects of alcohol

consumption and how these effects are associated with their academic

performance. Excessive alcohol consumption can also lead to poor decision

making, which lead to academic and personal problems. As a result, it is best to

limit or avoid alcohol consumption while studying.

Parents. The results of this study will serve as a guide for parents to find ways

for your children to be involved in family life such as doing chores or caring for a

young sibling. Set clear rules, including rules about alcohol use. Enforce that

rules you set help your child find ways to have fun without alcohol.

Teachers. Teachers will be enlightened and would be more aware of student’s

different strategies to prevent alcohol consumption. They will know how to

organize and to manage procedures that will maximize the efficiency of the
student’s progress. Hence, this will enable them to recognize the capacities and

techniques of the students to learn.

Senior High School Department. With the outcome of this research, the Senior

High School Department will be more active in offering advice on the various

components they provide. This will also serve as a guide to all senior high school

students and teachers in launching programs and conducting seminars that will

help students to prevent the effects of alcohol consumption on academic

performance.

Library. This study is very significant to the library because this can serve as a

guide and reference for future research study. This will also serve as new content

for the students to read and learn for the next few years. Moreover, students may

use this study as a source of information and accurate details about the study’s

focus since copies of it will be available in the library. Further, the library will have

new information regarding the topic that will provide credible and reliable

contents.

Research. This research is very crucial to the researchers because it will enable

them to comprehend the study they are working on. This will be beneficial for

them as they are the researchers who can come up with conclusions that will be

helpful for future researchers. Additionally, conducting this study can enhance

researchers analytical and critical thinking skills, and they can learn from their

own research paper.

researchers since this will serve as a reference for them, who want to proceed

with the mentioned research study. They will have better information about the

research; thus, it will help them to understand and be more knowledgeable that

can assist them in offering recommendations and solutions for the issues.

Professional Academy of the Philippines. The institution will benefit from this

study because they can make more engaging activities that will help students to

prevent the effects of alcohol consumption on academic performance, students

will learn more knowledge and be aware.

IX. Expected Actions Recommendations

Alcohol consumption showed a negative association with motivation for

students and subjectively achieved academic performance of senior high

school of Professional Academy of the Philippines. Drinking alcohol has a

greater impact mainly on the health of people and the academic performances

of learners. These results align more with the novation that peers influence

individuals’ preferences rather than limiting their options. Thus, it is expected

that the gathered data will be able to spread awareness on how alcohol

consumption affects the academic performance. Teachers will be able to

educate students more about alcohol consumption. Researchers will be able to

come up with solutions. Parents will be able to discipline and educate their

child about alcohol consumption.
