Aim:
To determine molarity and strength of given KMnO4solution, using self-prepared standard
M/20 solution of Ferrous Ammonium salt (Mohr’s salt ).
Theory:
Molecular Equation:
Procedure:
I. Preparation of M/20 solution of FAS:
i. Accurately weight 1.96 g of solid FAS and transfer it to 100 ml SMF. Add 10 ml of
2N H2SO4.
ii. Make up the solution upto 100 ml in the SMF.
II. Estimation of Molarity & strength of KmnO4 using standard FAS solution:
i. Burette solution : KMnO4 solution (unknown solution)
ii. Pipette solution : FAS solution (standard M/20 solution)
iii. Conical Flask solution : 20 ml standard FAS + 20 ml 4N H2SO4
iv. Indicator : KMnO4 (Self indicator)
v. End point : Colourless to pale permanent pink colour.
vi. Room temperature : 250C
vii. Molar mass of KMnO4 : 158 g/mol
viii. Molar mass of FAS :392 g/mol
Result:
i) Molarity of given KMnO4 solution : 0.01 M
ii) Strength of given KMnO4 solution : 1.58 g/L.

Calculation:
I. Preparation of 100 ml M/ 20 FAS solution:
Amount of FAS required preparing M/20 solution
