- The zhou overthrew the shang to begin their own dynasty

- Gave royal family and trusted nobles control of areas that belonged to them which is called feudalism and in return they
would help the zhou with military support

- Mandate of heaven was seen as a government could be passed from one noble family to another based on the gods

- Dynastic cycle was a dynasty establishing peace then declining which caused riots and floods would then be seen as losing
Mandate of Heaven which would lead to change of dynasty to rebuild and start a new

- Warring states period was the result of Zhou kings claiming their own territory

- Confucianism was a way a life for social order to be restored. There was the five basic relationships consiting of things like
father and son or friend and friend.

- Confucius wanted children to respect their parents and ancestors which is called filial piety

QIN Dynasty

Great wall of china built during Qin dynasty

- Replaced Zhou dynasty


- Qin shi huangdi first emperor of china who also united china
- Great wall of china was do or die for the peasants
- people who disobeyed were punished people who obeyed were rewarded
- dynasty would end when Qin killed himself and during this time the Han began to eliminate their enemies.

SILK ROAD THAT HELPED CHINA TRADE WITH OTHERS SUCH AS ROME

- Liu bang defeated Xiang yu to become the first emperor of Han dynasty

- Silk road helped bring silk to Rome Buddhism came to china on the Silk Road

- Silk Road helped bring silk across china since it was such a popular item

- social structure was emperor at the top and soldiers and slaves at the bottom , based off of power and need or what they had
to give and contribute.

- civil service system lowered taxes and gave people government jobs but first they had to take examinations

- buddhism become part of china for the next 2000 years

- the fall of the han would begin as the rich start to take advantage of the poor and as taxes were needed for the government

Tang Dynasty

Tang dyansty exapnsion of China

- Tang came after the Sui which helped their foundation as a dynasty

- reestablished civil service exam and system to control large empire helped create governing class in china and was open to
all men

- Foot binding bound upper class girls who would end up being crippled and this was the decline of their status as well
becuase their work and job would not be as important and foot binding would become a custom for them.

IMPACT

- became the richest, most powerful, and most advanced country in the
world

- more territory expansion on China

Song Dynasty

GUN POWDER would be one of the important advancements in technology

- Taizu first song emperor

-China was stable again

-Song ruled only the south

- it was good economically for them to trade with others

- new types of technology helped build explosives from gun powder and a movable type would help with printing a page and
making education a bigger thing.

Yuan Dynasty

KUBLAI KHAN YUAN DYNASTY RULER

- Kublai khan who was the grandson of genghis khan was the emperor of the yuan dynasty

- pax mongolica is mongol peace

- Marco Polo was a European who came to china and served kublai khan as well

- Kublai khan tried to invade japan but failed which lead to embaressment

- United china after such a long period of time

- Kublai khan changed government and helped with trade in china

- Marco Polo goes back to his home and tells people about China which lead them to later want to trade and explore China.

- Increased foreign trade

Ming Dynasty

FORBIDDEN CITY

- No longer mongol rule

- Ming dynasty would bring dominant power to china

- Hongwu emperor of ming dynasty

- zheng he was a Chinese Muslim admiral who went on voyages with his huge ships and distributed silk and gifts along the way
to show how china was on top.

- Yonglo wanted the forbidden city to be made to show his power when the capital was moved to Beijing

IMPACT
- launched voyages so others could see how powerful the Ming dynasty of china had.

- Europeans came into china during this dynasty

- High taxes and harvest made peasants starve

Qing Dynasty

- king of England gave the Quing emperor gifts such as clocks and a hot air balloon but he wrote him a letter that they already
had everything

- Population increased which lead to more problems and people going against Qing dynasty

- china did not want to accept gifts because they did not need help and things from other outsiders.

- opium wars was between Britain and china but their boats were no match for britains so they lost the war leading up to a
treaty of Nanjing which gave Britain Hong Kong

- Outside influence on china is trading with foreigners and open door policy

- taiping rebellion lead by hong xiuquan was his plan to make a group that would live in no poverty.

- British and French attacked them at the governments worse
- China lost 20 million people or more in rebellion another rebellion erupted from peasant group called the boxers
to fight against the empress and foreign privilege
