Searching for information online is a common practice that virtually everyone in this day and age can do
to broaden their horizon of knowledge. So lemme tell you about a time I needed to find information on
the net about how to make a birthday cake for my little sister.

if I’m not mistaken, it was my little sister’s birthday, I had no idea what I should gift her. I did consider
giving her iPhone or iPod, you know, some high-tech gadgets, but given the fact that she had all these
items at her disposal, I changed my mind and decided to gift her a salted egg cheese sponge cake made
by myself.

Truth be told, I’m completely clueless about cake making in particular and culinary skills as a whole. This
is coupled with me being all fingers and thumbs, so you can see that making a cake seemed like a tall
order for me to do. At first, I went searching online, and I was bombarded with innumerable webs
teaching me, but I didn’t know which one was the best. So, in the end, I came across a youtube video
with detailed instructions and ingredients like the suitable proportions of flour, eggs, and chees.

With the internet around, some people might think the library's outdated, but I still think it's pretty

that you might not have found online. Plus, not everyone has access to the internet or devices to access
it, so libraries are still really valuable to those people.
4. Does the development of the Internet have any impact on disadvantaged people?
Yeah, the internet's great, but it can leave some people behind. Not everyone has a computer or reliable
internet access, and that can make it really hard for them to access important info or services. Plus,
there are some groups of people who might not be as comfortable using technology, like older folks or
people with disabilities, and that can put them at a disadvantage.

To be totally upfront with you, I’ve never been a couch potato so spending lots of time binge-watching
something on the net is not my thing. However, there is still a program that tickles my fancy and I can’t
help but tune in to watch it every Saturday evening. it’s a reality show called ‘running man’ which has
been all the rage among audiences across the world since its launch.

This program, which is produced in Korea, features a group of seven celebrities who will come to
different tourist attractions around the world to explore traditional cuisines, unique cultures, and
intriguing lifestyles.

To be honest, I adore all the attendants on this reality show. I’m not sure I correctly pronounce their
name but I love the unique trait of each person. I enjoy the way Lee Kwang Soo cracked me up with his
wacky behaviors and sense of humor, the way the MC Yoo Jae Suck opens each episode and makes
everyone feel at ease during the program, and so on

I also like watching the gradual development of relationships between these celebrities as if they were a
family rather than just attendants in a reality show. I’ve watched this program for more than five years,

16. Describe an object that you think is beautiful
You should say:
What it is
Where you saw it
What it looks like
And explain why you think it is beautiful

Well, for me, a beautiful object is not necessarily just about its aesthetic appeal but also about its
sentimental, traditional, historical, and cultural values attached to it. So, lemme tell you about a watch I
think is the most stunning item for me.
I have been having this watch for about 5 years. If I’m not mistaken, I received this watch as a gift from
my parents when I passed the university entrance examination with flying colors. This was my very first
achievement, so my parents made it a point to celebrate my crucial milestone and gift me such a
beautiful watch that cost them an arm and a leg.
It was not just a run-of-the-mill watch, but it was a Daniel Wellington automatic watch with a brownish
leather strap and a black shiny dial.
With an elegant and stylish appearance, it can lend some visual interest to the ensemble, especially for a
fashion-conscious person like me. However, the crux of the matter was that I think this watch is
beautiful not just because of its visual appeal, simplicity, and versatility, but also because of its
sentimental attachment. Whenever I look at it, it’s reminiscent of my wonderful and carefree days in my
childhood with my family.
1. Do you think there are more beautiful things now than in the past? Why?
Well, I guess so. Beautiful things like artworks, handicrafts, and even architecture are being created
every day. The development of technology should definitely take the credit for their creation. For
example, the camera and all kinds of graphic-editing software give people the opportunity to innovate
in photography. Even the amateurish nowadays can turn out visually appealing works. Another
example is the computer, which has become a powerful tool for design in a wide range of fields, like
graphic design, industrial design, animation, you name it.
2. What beautiful scenery spots are there in your country?
– China is endowed with some of the most stunning/breathtaking natural scenery on this planet thanks
to its vast expanses of land. There’s the picturesque Karst landscape in the southern provinces like
Yunnan and Guangxi, the precipitous pillar-like formations in Zhangiajie Geopark in Central China, the
four natural wonders in Huangshan including the greeting guests pines, oddly-shaped rocks, seas of
cloud and hot springs, the spectacular Nine Villages Valley lying in the southwest of China with lakes of
various colors, incredible waterfalls, unique wildlife and mountains covered with leaves of varying
shades.
3. Where do you think people usually come into contact with beautiful things?
People can see beautiful things at tourist attractions. From natural views like mountains and lakes,
historical sites like religious architecture and ancient palaces, to exquisite traditional handicrafts made
by locals, tourist sites have a lot to offer. Apart from that, they can also find beautiful things in places
like the museum and gallery where antiquities and masterpieces from different periods in history are on
display. Some people might say beautiful things are ubiquitous in our daily life and we’ll notice them as
long as we pay close attention to details.
4. Why do you think people create beautiful things?
Because humans are biologically wired to be attracted to beautiful things. When we see something
that is pleasing to the eye, be it an impeccable sculpture, a marvelous painting or simply beautiful
clothes, we feel a great sense of joy, invigorated power and optimism for life. However, whenever we
catch sight of ugliness, we feel uncomfortable and even depressed. So our cravings for beauty are in our
genes and that drives us to create beautiful things.

What it was about

When you had it
What the teacher did
And why you enjoyed the lesson

Well, to be totally honest with you, back in the day when I was in high school, I always found
conventional ways of teaching English a yawn, with lots of grammar exercises and little practical
applications. Mind you, there was a young, dynamic, and cheerful English teacher in my high school who
had a completely revolutionary pedagogical method that makes the lesson oddly engrossing and left a
profound impression on me.

She was a new teacher from Canada on a three-month period of probation. at first, I was quite
suspicious of her competence because she was so young, maybe 6 or 7 years older than me. However,
my skepticism quickly disappeared with her novel and intriguing teaching methods that blew my mind.

She didn’t begin the lesson by introducing a new grammar rule like the traditional way; instead, she
warmed up with an English song and invited all of us to sing along, which made a few of us giggle with
amusement. After that, she held various entertaining games and used visuals to help us understand new
vocabulary or grammar rules, which is honestly so absorbing that it captures my undivided attention.

Thanks to Ms. Mai, I’ve completely changed my mindset about how to learn English. I realized that
learning a new language didn’t necessarily have to rely on boring textbooks as I can watch movies, listen
to music, and stuff.

to stay in the know, you should definitely check it out. From music videos and movie trailers to
educational content and cooking tutorials, YouTube has it all. It's also a platform where people can

connect with their audiences. I also love the community aspect of YouTube, where viewers can leave
comments and interact with content creators.

but I have since rewatched them numerous times.

Hermione is one of the main characters in the series and is a highly intelligent and resourceful witch
who becomes Harry Potter's close friend and ally. What I love about Hermione is her intelligence,
determination, and loyalty. She is an excellent student and always strives to do her best, even when
facing difficult challenges.

She also has a strong moral compass and is not afraid to speak up when she believes something is
wrong. In addition, I appreciate the way Hermione evolves throughout the series. She starts off as a
rule-following know-it-all, but as she experiences more and grows as a person, she becomes more

see!"

As soon as I tore off the wrapping paper and saw the box with the iPhone in it, I squealed with delight! I
couldn't believe she had gone and gotten me the new phone! I gave her a huge hug and thanked her a
million times.

After that, I spent the rest of the day transferring all my apps, photos, and contacts to the new phone. I
played around with all the new features, like the facial recognition and the better camera. I even took a
bunch of selfies and sent them to my friends, just to show off my new toy!

Overall, I felt ecstatic about the gift. It wasn't just the fact that I got the latest gadget, but that my mom

- conflicts and debates are an inherent part of life, so it’s vitally important to learn how to deal with
them gracefully.
- So, lemme tell you about the time when I had a heated argument with my parents about my career
choice.
What the disagreement was:
- five years ago, so I don’t remember every detail
- just passed the university entrance with flying colors; however, I faced a dilemma that I didn’t know
which major I should pursue.
- I naturally wanted to follow my passion for languages, English in particular, so I was inclined to register
for the linguistic course
- My parents, however, wanted me to pursue a business administration course because they knew some
business tycoons, so once I had completed my degree, they would pull some strings to get me a well-
paid job easily.

What happened during the disagreement:

- I got that my parents loved and always wanted the best for me
- still, I wanted to study and then do what I loved rather than worked for money and other material
possessions.
- eventually, we had so bad an argument that my dad stormed out of the room and my mom was on the
verge of crying while I went through the roof when my parents didn’t allow me to do what I want.

- some controversial issues
+ Roe v. Wade overturned (abortion law)
+ immigration

2/ What are the ways to prevent an argument from escalating into a fight?
+ try to be civilized + respond rationally rather than emotionally
Arguments escalate because we allow our emotional minds to take over in the heat of the moment. It
can be an exhilarating feeling, but such emotions tend to feed the fire of an argument, rather than
working to douse the flames.

Try your best to ignore the emotional content of the other person’s argument (including personal insults
or attacks) and focus on the core issue that requires working through toward a compromise or
concession.
+ Try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes & keep an open mind

3/ Who do you think should teach children to respect others?

+ adults (teachers + parents)
+ can learn by themselves through their social interactions with others.

48. Describe an advertisement you don't like:

What type of advertisement it is

What product or service it advertises
Where and when you first saw it
And explain why you don’t like it.

+ A new energy drink called Mountain Dew from Pepsi / feel irritated/ something offended me
+ a flashy, high-speed ads  appeals to younger audiences by having people having a whale of a time
by partying and drinking this kind of soft drink
+ where and when:
…. Hijacked my attention
 an effective product to wake people up + make them energetic

+ Why you don’t like: can’t stand = detest = loathe

 full of sugar as well as artificial and coloring products  misleadingly portray the product in a
positive light, making people, (children), think  healthy + help us regain our energy
 encourage sugary product consumption among young people  obesity
 should market the product in a more reasonable and honest way instead of trying to sell it based on
unrealistic expectations.

I don't like advertisements for supplements that promise rapid weight loss. These types of ads typically
target people who are looking for a quick and easy solution to their weight-related issues and often
make outrageous claims about the effectiveness of their products.

I first saw one of these ads while watching a video on YouTube. The ad featured a heavily photoshopped
image of a woman who had supposedly lost a significant amount of weight by taking the advertised
supplement. The ad made bold claims about how the supplement could help people lose weight
without any exercise or dietary changes, which I found to be highly misleading.

The reason I dislike this type of advertisement is that it preys on people's insecurities and exploits their
desire for a quick fix. In reality, there is no magic pill or supplement that can lead to sustainable weight
loss without making changes to one's diet and exercise routine.

Moreover, some of these supplements may actually be harmful to people's health, as they can contain
unregulated ingredients that have not been tested for safety or effectiveness. It is therefore
irresponsible for companies to promote these types of products without providing adequate
information about their potential risks and side effects.

Overall, I believe that advertisements for supplements that promise rapid weight loss are deceptive and
unethical. People who are struggling with weight-related issues deserve to be treated with respect and
provided with accurate and helpful information, rather than being targeted with misleading and
potentially harmful advertising.

1. What kind of things advertise most in your country?

+ Vietnam is an agricultural country; in fact, a large proportion of my country’s economy depends on the
production of crops, such as rice or corns, or animal raising such as cattle and poultry. Farming products
like fertilizers or pesticides are heavily advertised. Mind you, most farmers are technophobes,
+ because of improvements in financial conditions  people are financially competent to care more for
their appearance through cosmetics products  the beauty industry is booming  companies use
various strategies to attract customers like celebrity endorsements or influencer partnerships
2. Which is more effective, online or newspaper advertising?
- depends on target audiences
- newspaper adverts  more suitable for the elderly who are often technologically illiterate + prefer
reading on newspapers  companies who want to attract customers from this demographic should put
their ads more on newspapers or articles.
- online ads  younger, tech-savvy audiences who engage in lots of online activities
 it all comes down to who you want to achieve.
49. Describe a person who likes to dress fashionably/well

Who he/she is

- When I was in secondary school, I met a guy named Mike who had a dapper or even a wacky style of
fashion.
- The crux of the matter was that there was no dress code in my secondary school, which therefore
allowed Mike to be creative in how he looked.
- The first time - he had already left a strong impression on me. I was bowled over by his blue overcoat
jacket outside and his striped T-shirt with a pink tie, which somehow appeared both absurd and snappy
at the same time.
- I was so intrigued by his fashion choices and couldn’t help but strike up a conversation with him and
that’s how we became friends
- he confided in me that he had had a passion for fashion since a little kid and wanted to pursue a career
of being a fashionista in the future.
- I think, Mike was a brave and confident person because he didn’t care about what others thought of
him. due to his quaint dressing ways, He quickly became the talk of the town in the school where he
became a topic for gossip among students. Personally, I believe he had a good sense of style and fashion
and a flair for mixing and matching clothes.

fashionable

saw online.
+ the color was too pale, and the fabric was a bit ragged
+ I went through the roof when I found out that the shop gave me the wrong size 🡪 too tight
to wear
+ Worse still – to make the matter worse (tệ hơn nữa)

because this was a discount product.

taste (a hassle/nuisance)
Describe an impressive English lesson you had and enjoyed

What it was about

When you had it
What the teacher did
And why you enjoyed the lesson

Well, to be totally honest with you, back in the day when I was in high school, I always found
conventional ways of teaching English a yawn, with lots of grammar exercises and little
practical applications. Mind you, there was a young, dynamic, and cheerful English teacher in
my high school who had a completely revolutionary pedagogical method that makes the lesson
oddly engrossing and left a profound impression on me.

She was a new teacher from Canada on a three-month period of probation. at first, I was quite
suspicious of her competence because she was so young, maybe 6 or 7 years older than me.
However, my skepticism quickly disappeared with her novel and intriguing teaching methods
that blew my mind.

She didn’t begin the lesson by introducing a new grammar rule like the traditional way; instead,
she warmed up with an English song and invited all of us to sing along, which made a few of us
giggle with amusement. After that, she held various entertaining games and used visuals to
help us understand new vocabulary or grammar rules, which is honestly so absorbing that it
captures my undivided attention.

1. Thanks to Ms. Mai, I’ve completely changed my mindset about how to learn English. I
realized that learning a new language didn’t necessarily have to rely on boring textbooks as I

about the language they are teaching.
 Another important quality is the ability to communicate effectively and tailor their
teaching approach to the needs and learning styles of their students.
3. Do you think grammar is important when learning foreign languages?
 Yes, grammar is an important component of learning any foreign language because it
provides the structural foundation for effective communication.
 However, another idea is that while grammar is important, it should not be the sole focus
of language learning, and students should also be encouraged to practice speaking and
listening in a natural, conversational context.
4. How can a foreign language teacher make their lessons interesting?
 One idea is to incorporate cultural elements and real-world scenarios into the lessons to
make them more engaging and relevant to students' interests.
 Another effective approach is to use multimedia tools and interactive activities, such as
games and role-playing exercises, to keep students actively involved and motivated.
