• Mathematics is designed as formal
teaching, centered on learning techniques
and memorizing rules whose rationale is
not evident to the learners.
• Learners do not know which needs are met
by the mathematics topics introduced or
how they are linked to known concepts.

• A deep understanding of mathematics
content is solely lacking among
mathematics teachers
• Teachers’ poor preparation in identifying
effective pedagogies for teaching specific
content material to particular group of

• Mathematics teachers find it daunting to
implement some general learning
strategies such as the use of cooperative
learning and also to manage their learners
that are engaged in such learning

artificial to be convincing and applications are
stereotypical.
• There are few experimental practices and
modeling activities.
• Technology is quite rarely used in a relevant
manner
• Learners have little autonomy in their
mathematical work and often merely reproduce

let the learners discover certain patterns
by some examples with the use of
computing devices
• Formulation of proofs is better when
learners are able to “interact” with the
figures
