Statement of Purpose of Vindya Sabbineni

Applying for MS in Horticulture for Fall, 2023

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”

-John Dewey

According to an adage, “The process of learning continues throughout one’s life”. As

we continue to learn, we realize that there are innumerable things, yet to be
discovered. During my undergraduate course, I realized that whatever I have
learned is just a few drops in an enormous ocean of knowledge. My decision to
pursue Masters and later my Doctorate is a natural consequence of my desire to gain
as much knowledge as possible in my field of interest. The degrees I accrue are more
of a consequence than the final goal.
I completed my schooling at Government Public School, Chebrolu, and Intermediate
at Sri Chaitanya Junior College, Guntur. My school played a very crucial role and
encouraged me to indulge in several extracurricular activities. Right from my school
days, I am disciplined and consistently ranked amongst the top few students in my
class. After my intermediate, I focused on cracking the entrance exam to get
university admission in my dream course. Fortunately, I got a good rank and secure
free admission in my dream course “BSc (Hons) Horticulture” at Horticulture
College and Research Institute, Dr.YSR Horticultural University,
Venkataramannagudem which is one of the best universities under the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
During the first year of under graduation, I realized that it was more important to
gain a thorough knowledge of my subjects, and therefore never constricted my field
of study to the immediate purview of the syllabus. I have made it a point to keep
myself updated about the latest technologies in my field of study by attending
various lectures and seminars conducted at the college as well as by referring to the
magazines and books at the library.
I am always enthusiastic about learning new skills and assertiveness directed me to
practice more about nursery management, plant propagation, and seed production
by various technologies. I learned many things by observation when even I found
time, I prefer to walk in the college garden and tried to explore the garden which
helped me to know more about landscape gardening, lawn management, and
identification of a wide variety of floricultural plants. In the first three years of
graduation, I learned the production technology of fruits, vegetables, spices, cereals,
and pulses and trained in the fields of plant propagation, nursery management,
ICM, INM, seed production, and identification of pets and diseases.
I am confident in saying that our grad. College is provided with extraordinary lab
facilities and food processing units that helped me to acquire knowledge on post-
harvest handling and preservation of fruits and vegetables.
To acquire the knowledge at ground level attended the “Rural Awareness Work
Experience Programme” in the final year. During the RAWEP conducted a
Participatory Rural Appraisal survey. Worked on understanding farmers' field
activities, cropping systems, and crop management techniques. Introduced new
technologies to the farmers by conducting field visits, demonstrations, and
agricultural exhibitions. At the end of this training, holistic knowledge was acquired

about Horticulture and allied sectors. In the final semester of graduation attended
“The Experimental Learning program on commercial Horticulture” to adopt
theoretical knowledge at the field level, and grow crops by adopting various
technologies and skills.
At the end of the graduation, I hypothesize that weather is the most impacting factor
on crop cultivation. Hence, I decided to pursue my post-graduation in the line, and
fortunately, I got admission to the College of Agriculture, Vasantharao Naik
Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani.
At the course of time attended all the theory and practical classes as well as
conducted a research experiment on “Influence of weather parameters on growth,
yield and quality of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Milli) final I stand as an
academic topper and was awarded a cash prize in the name of “Shri Rambhaji
Temaji Jaybhaye” for securing outstanding CGPA in Master of Sciences
(Agriculture) in the Agricultural Meteorology, 2015-2016. After completing of MSc
(Agriculture), in Agricultural Meteorology I has to take on many responsibilities
from my parents and there I stopped my education and searched for jobs in
Agricultural Meteorology research, and unfortunately, it didn’t work.
Later started my carrier as a lecturer at the college where I completed my
graduation, worked there for three months after joining this job, and I was selected
as a Research Associate in the GKMS Project which is funded by the Indian
Meteorological Department, Pune. At that moment I felt like I found a limelight to
fulfill my dreams. For about 27 months have been in the same position and
associated in researching on
 Thermal and rainwater use efficiency in pigeonpea based intercropping
system under rainfed conditions.
 Performance of determinate pigeonpea genotype as an intercrop with cotton
under rainfed conditions.
 Influence of weather parameters on the incidence of Fall armyworm on maize
under Krishna Agroclimatic conditions.
Further, in the year 2020 October, I tried to secure a better job I appeared for an
interview and was selected as a Subject Matter Specialist (Agrometeorology) and
joined a new job at Krishi Vigyan Kendra and continued in the same position till to
date. In this phase of my working journey, I conducted research, training programs,
and awareness campaigns, issued weather-based advice to the farming community
of the Bhadradri District of Telangana, and collected feedback from the farmers.
To sum up all my experience and self-assessment, I felt that I need to be
strengthened in the department of Horticulture also to fulfill my long-term goals.
Therefore, I decided to return to academics and pursue my second master's in
Horticulture at your esteemed University. Through the coursework and research, I
want to build a strong foundation that will empower me to apply my knowledge
and experience in the field of Horticulture Research.
I am therefore submitting my application for consideration and admission to your
university for the My extent of interest are focused on, I want to study these

subjects profoundly in my Master’s Degree. I want to pursue my M.S. Degree in

Horticulture, which will act as a foundation for my Doctoral Degree in the future for
studies in applied research and varietal development. In consideration of all the fore-
said in-sights about me, I strongly believe a Master’s in Horticulture will help me
hone my skills a level higher. Undoubtedly M.S. Degree in Horticulture provides me
with my dream course and equips me with all the tools to transform my dreams into
reality. One fine day I hope my dreams will turn into a reality. I have always craved
an academic setting that is structured yet accords me the freedom to explore my
potential to the fullest, having consulted friends and alumnae I feel yours is one of
the institutes which meets my requirements. The Master’s Degree, and later the
Doctoral degree, I wish to pursue is just a means to the end where my ultimate aim
is to contribute best to the farming community.
