Stories become engaging with the help of the
characters involved.
➢ Unlike in the character
conceptualizations for a story,
wherein the creators are aware
of how influential they are in the
character's outcome, the people
around us, or we ourselves, may
be unaware of how encounters
in our life shape our moral
character.
➢Early experience plays a key
role in the development of all
body and brain systems and
so it necessarily has an
influence on subsequent
moral functioning.” Narvaez
& Gleason (2013)
➢Early experience pertains
to perinatal, postnatal, and
until childhood.
➢perinatal begins at the 20th to 28th week
of gestation and ends 1 to 4 weeks after
delivery.

➢Postnatal begins six to eight weeks after

birth
➢Looking back in that time
frame of our life, we realize
how vulnerable &
dependent we were to the
people around us who may
or may not know how much
impact they have on us.
➢During our early life, we
had no or not much control
over the encounters or
people we were exposed to.
➢But now that we in the adult
stage of our life, we need to
realize and accept that we have
the power to choose, change,
filter, and make our own
decisions regarding the people
and encounters we want to focus
on or use for our own moral
growth.

CHARACTER
Development of Moral Character
➢Moral character is formed by one’s actions. “ The
habits, actions, and emotional responses of the person
of good character all are united and directed toward the
moral and the good” (Mitchell, 2015). In order for us to
be able to acquire good habits and values, we have to
know what factors influence our moral character.
FACTORS
AFFECTING OUR
MORAL
CHARACTER
1. FAMILY
2. BIOLOGICAL CONSTITUTION
3. PEER GROUP (Barkada)
a group of people of approximately the same age, status, and interests.
4. School
