INTRODUCTION

This manual prepared by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc.
(SAAMI) is a portion of the data on voluntary recommended practices, procedures, and product
performance criteria utilized by many of the leading American makers of sporting firearms and
ammunition. It has been recorded over a period of more than 75 years.
This material was developed and collected in the interest of product safety and interchangeability
and presents recommended maximum cartridge and minimum chamber dimensions.
These recommendations have been prepared as a matter of information for members of the Sporting
Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. They are made available to non-members on a
limited basis as a matter of courtesy and public service. It is expressly understood that use of the
information supplied is restricted to the party or entity requesting it, and that no publication,
distribution, or reproduction rights are granted. Accordingly, neither the Institute nor those engaged
in the preparation of these recommendations make any representation or guarantee, and do not
