Sub : Guidelines for re-structuing/implementing compulsory Add-On Extra Disciplinary Courses — improved model of CBCS — Implementation from the academic year 2014-2015 at P.G. Courses - Reg Sir/Madam As per the proposals mooted by the IQAC to strengthen the existing CBCS for benefit of students to enhance their employability through enhancing their soft skills and by gaining the knowledge of interdisciplinary subjects, the University has decided to re-structure the existing CBCS scheme with the introduction of the following add-on Extra-Disciplinary Courses to implement w.e.f. the academic year 2014-2015 at P.G. level for the batch of students admitted in 2014-2015, duly approved by the Standing Committee at its meeting held on 10-7-2014 4 To intrnduica the following Add On course papers in Arts/Social Sciences/Science/LawiCommerce! Management courses with effect from the year 2014-2015 in the I & Il semesters as per the choice of the department ISemester a) Communicative English & Soft Skills Or b) Combating Corruption l'Semester a) Human Values and Professional Ethics Or 0) (i) Basics of Computer Science (exclusively for science faculty) (ii) Computer Basics & Applications (for MAM. Com/MCJ/B.Lisc) 2. The Head of the departments shall make necessary teaching arrangements in consultation With the principal of the concerned college. ‘The | & Il semesters of B.Lisc be considered to be equivalent to | & Il semesters of MA/M.Com/M. Se All the above add on papers consists of four units. Hence, the Chairpersons of the concerned boards of studies be requested to revise the syllabus accordingly 5. Number of teaching hours per paper: 12 periods of 1 % hours duration OR 18 hours 6. No of credits - Two (2) 7. Apass in the examination is a must for the students to become eligible for a degree Evaluation Methods 1. Maximum Marks 50, out of the total marks (50) for each add on paper, (10) marks shall be earmarked for intemal assessment and remaining (40) marks for the semester end examination 2, “The semester end examination shall be conducted by the University spices 3. The question paper shall consists of two parts Section-A 4 questions of 4 marks each (16 marks) without choice (bits of 2 marks) Section-B 4 questions of 6 marks each (24 marks) with intemal choice (one essay ‘Type question) 4, Duration of the examination : Two hours 5, Each answer script of semester end examination shall be valued by two internal examinations in odd ‘Semesters and one internal and one extemal in the even semesters. The marks awarded to that ‘answer scripts shall be the average of these two evaluations. If the difference in marks between the ‘wo evaluations is 20% or more of the marks, such soripts shall be assessed by @ third examiner (internal) Average of the highest of the two evaluation will be taken, ‘The pass marks in each paper shall be 40% there is no separate pass marks for internal assessment A candidate has to secure a minimum of 40% of marks in the semester end examination put gether Together to pass a paper 5 Internal Assessment Tests For each Add On paper in a semester there shall be one internal assessment test be conducted in the fiteenth week of instructions (exact date will be communicated later) ‘The test shall consist of : 4fillin the blanks questions carrying 1 mark each (4 marks) 4 descriptive questions on concepts ( to be answered in 2 or 3 sentences) carrying 1 % marks each (6 marks) There shall be no improvernent in the internal assessment ‘There shall be no separate Grade points for internal tests ‘The duration of the internal assessment test shall be 30 minutes The paper for internal assessment tests is set by the teacher(s) who is (are) teaching the ssubjecUpaper in that semester. 7. The answer scripts need not be sent to the University but should be preserved by the respective College for verification for a period of one year however. the marks of internal assessment test should bbe communicated by the respective Principals of the college to the Controller of Examination, OU. within one week from the date of the internal assessment test 8. Incase a candidate fails to appear for the internal assessment testfor what ever reasons, the test will not be conducted again and he/she has fo forego the internal assessment test and against the marks ccolums for internal assessment will be indicated ABSENT. In such cases where thecandidates have not appeared for the internal assessment test they are required to secure (20) marks out of 40 marks earmarked for semester end examination to be considered as passed in that paper.
