Tree Tracking System
Tree Tracking System
SYNOPSIS
The use of technology to initiate, manage and monitor almost every activity is not
new including monitoring and tracking trees. Trees can be tracked in real time
using satellite technologies like google earth but its overall overhead cost and
total cost of ownership (TCO) may not be the best idea vis a vis the huge financial
cost involved. Other technology implementation that can be adopted and achieve
a thorough monitoring and tracking of every tree will require the use of a mobile
app that will talk to a central tracking and reporting backend after data collection
in the field using the app by the Tree Initiative Manager (TIM) or Planter within a
family.
The approach will help to report status of each tree using tree identification
number and geolocation coordinate to identify each tree and log incidences and
monthly report, providing almost real time information of the tree. It will be
possible to identify trees that are not monitored and status logged at any given
time.
The backend will provide access to view reports on all trees planted by a family,
track their status, view incidences reported, view the growth rate of the tree and
all pictorial and video logs made on each tree. Users of the platform can search
using tree identification number or coordinates to interact with the platform on
any information about any tree or group of trees or based on the TIM.

WORKFLOW
TREE PLANT FAMILY MANAGER
a. Account Activation – Downloads the app to his/her mobile phone and
registers his credentials in the app and activates the app with a code sent to
his phone. After activation captures his picture and sets the geolocation of
his farm.
b. Tree Registration – Geolocates the tree plant location, device capturing the
cordinates of the tree and generates a unique tree identification number
(TIN). User completes the profiling of the tree and capture the tree current
pictures. This information syncronizes on backend realtime or in batches if
no network is available.
c. Monthly Tree Status Log – each tree status is updated on the phone with
geolocation query of the tree as an entry point for the status log update.
User captures the picture of the tree using live camera and fill the log form
on the app to notify the progress of tree growth.
d. Find A Tree – This is a search query option on the app where query can be
submitted based on geolocation of the device OR Tree Identification
Number. The App will display all information for that tree if Found including
sequential pictures on the tree logs.
e. My Statistics – this option allows user to view all reports relating to
summaries of trees planted, summaries of status of the trees, report on the
totals of trees and other activity performed by the user.
f. Notification – View all the notification from the platform data center.
E. VIEW TREES STATUS SUMMARIES – gets all summaries relating to the trees
status and when information is updated.
G. MESSAGE BOARD CENTRE – Interactive message board for all persons can
be used by everyone on the platform.
