Mental health is important to address because it is a fundamental human right and essential to personal, social, and economic growth. Mental health advocacy aims to ensure the views and preferences of those with mental health conditions or diminished capacity are acknowledged, understood, and prioritized in decision making. To maintain good mental health, some key strategies include spending time with supportive people, expressing your feelings, engaging in healthy behaviors like exercise and nutrition, developing skills, relaxing with hobbies, setting realistic goals, and getting sufficient sleep. Prioritizing these strategies can help you function well and have meaningful relationships while better managing life's stresses.

MODULE 2 – CWTS 10023

ASSESSMENT

1. What is mental health? Why does it matter to advocate and address mental
health issues?

Psychological wellness is a condition of mental prosperity that empowers

individuals to adapt to the burdens of life, understand their capacities,
learn well and function admirably, and add to their local area. It supports
our individual and collective capacities to make decisions, build
relationships, and shape the world in which we live as an essential part of
health and well-being. A fundamental human right is mental health.
Additionally, it is essential to personal, social, and economic growth.

Mental disorders, psychosocial disabilities, and other mental states

that are associated with significant distress, impairment in functioning, or
the risk of self-harm are all examples of mental health conditions.
Although this is not always the case, people with mental health conditions
are more likely to experience lower levels of mental well-being.

A person's or a group's thoughts and feelings can be expressed through

mental health advocacy. It guarantees that their preferences for their
welfare and support are recorded and implemented. The person-centered
approach stipulates that service providers must give priority to the
individual's personal goals, even if they aren't necessarily the service
providers' top priorities.

This is because people who don't need help can make decisions on
their own. Whether or not they are the right or most reasonable decisions.
That same level of freedom ought to be extended to those with diminished
capacity or those who require assistance.
Enabling people to speak for themselves or, otherwise, ensuring
the points of view of those that can’t are acknowledged and understood.
Allowing them to make informed decisions. Expressing the individual's
views without prejudice.
2. What are the strategies that you have to prioritize in keeping your mental
health well and stable?

Your mental and physical health is just as important as one another. You
can function well, have meaningful social connections, have high self-
esteem, and be better able to deal with the ups and downs of life if you
have good mental health and well-being.

A fundamental component of our overall health and well-being is

maintaining a healthy mind.

Here are a few things you can do to keep your mental health and well-
being:

 spend time with friends, loved ones, and people you trust.
 talk about or express your feelings regularly.
 reduce alcohol consumption.
 avoid illicit drug use.
 keep active and eat well.
 develop new skills and challenge your capabilities.
 relax and enjoy your hobbies.
 set realistic goals.
 get enough sleep.
