B. Establishing purpose for In the previous lesson, you learned the importance of planting and propagating trees and fruit-

Now, we will discuss important details about orchard farming. Many people engage in this
livelihood without taking the time to study the systematic and scientific processes involved. As
a result, some people have been unsuccessful in this undertaking, resulting in loss of income.
What are the important things one needs to know to avoid this from happening? This lesson
will provide you some of the information you want to know.
C. Presenting examples of Planting trees requires careful study of various factors to ensure its proper adaptability and
new lessons growth. Important factors in planting trees and fruit-bearing trees are to be considered to
achieve success in this industry.

1. Climate - the most important factor affecting the growth of trees. It has been observed that
different varieties of trees grow best in certain climatic conditions.
2. Temperature - the degree of coldness and hotness of the atmosphere at certain period of
time.
3. Sunlight - the main energy provider in the process of food manufacture in the plant
kingdom.
4. Rainfall - is very important in the growth of all kinds of trees, it must be controlled so
as not to flood and drown the growing trees with water.
5. Soil - provides nutrients in plants and contains mineral elements necessary for normal
plant growth and development of the trees.
 Mineral Soil - composed of inorganic substances with varying amounts
of decaying organic matter.
 Organic Soil - is formed from partly decayed plant materials.
6. Fertilizers - are added to soil to increase it productivity.
 Organic fertilizers - come from compost of decayed fruit and vegetables
peelings, animal manures, and food washing.
Inorganic fertilizers - are made up of synthetic materials and are substitute for organic
fertilizers.
D. Discussing New Planting and propagating trees especially the fruit-bearing variety can be a viable source of
Concepts and Practicing livelihood for families. It is important for human survival. If you get to know the success

PATRICIO BASE: With his entire three-hectare plantation of watermelons, honeydew
melons, and papaya, he produces crops year-round in Alicia, Isabela.
CIRILO GAPUZ: Gapuz Grapes Farms:Cirilo started the business in the 1990s to provide for
his family. Thirty years on, the farm has produced beyond expectations. The family also helped
neighboring farmers and interested locals in planting grapes.

Union, Patricio Base, with honeydew melons, and papaya plantation, and so many more
successful orchard growers in the Philippines. They give also employment to some of our rural
folks.

9. In fruit tree production, select a variety of tree that is not found in your locality.
