CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background

Hydrodynamics is a branch of science within the field of fluid science (the

science of the motion of liquids, such as water or air), which studies the motion and
behavior of liquids under dynamic conditions, particularly in areas related to forces,
pressures and changes in fluid velocity. Hydrodynamics combines the fundamentals
of physics, such as Newton's laws of motion, with unique concepts relating
specifically to fluid motion.
One application of hydrodynamics is coastal bridge hydrodynamics, which is
an important field in engineering. This analytical paper explores the emerging
intersection between machine learning and coastal bridge hydrodynamics and presents
a comprehensive and state-of-the-art review. With the continued development of
coastal infrastructure and the increasing threat of climate change, understanding the
complex dynamics of water flow around bridges is essential to ensure project
integrity, safety and longevity.
Combining machine learning methods with traditional hydrodynamic methods
has revolutionized the way complex interactions between air masses and bridge
structures are studied, predicted, and managed. This journal will explore the important
role of machine learning algorithms, such as neural networks, support vector
machines, and deep learning, in improving the ability to model and predict
hydrodynamic phenomena. By reviewing a series of recent studies, we aim to provide
an overview of the current coastal bridge hydrodynamics landscape, highlighting new
techniques, challenges and future prospects.
In the following sections, we will review the basics of coastal bridge
hydrodynamics, explaining the complex factors that influence water flow patterns,
erosion processes, and structural response. Ultimately, this analytical paper aims to
provide a comprehensive overview of the application of state-of-the-art machine
learning in coastal bridge hydrodynamics and provide guidance to researchers and
planners of infrastructure resilience.
1.2 Objective

The purpose of this paper is to review the journal Applied Ocean Research
which discusses about Machine learning in coastal bridge hydrodynamics: A state-of-
the-art review and analyze one of the applications of hydrodynamics science and its
innovative discoveries.
CHAPTER II THEORETICAL STUDY

Coastal bridges are critical infrastructure to connect coastal areas and serve as
emergency routes for relief after natural disasters. Natural disasters such as storms, tsunamis,
and earthquakes are threats that greatly affect the safety of coastal bridges. Natural disasters
cause serious damage and financial losses. Research on coastal bridge damage mechanisms,
hydrodynamic resistance prediction, and risk assessment methods are essential for improving
structural strength. Traditional approaches such as theoretical analysis, experimental studies,
and numerical simulations have limitations in generalizability and resource requirements.

Machine learning (ML) has emerged as an advanced technology that has the potential
to overcome current limitations and revolutionize the study of coastal bridge hydrodynamics.
ML algorithms can learn and infer complex relationships between parameters and responses
in coastal bridge hydrodynamics, and their application can advance the field.

The journal "Machine Learning in Coastal Bridge Hydrodynamics: A cutting-edge

journal" focuses on research related to coastal bridge hydrodynamics and the application of
machine learning (ML) algorithms. The journal covers a wide range of topics, from projects
predicting hydrodynamic forces on coastal bridges, evaluating response structures, the impact
of harsh marine environments, the combined effects of wind and waves, to evaluating the
fragility and risk of marine coastal bridges. It also focuses on the potential of ML algorithms
in improving the applicability and calculation efficiency of hydrodynamic analysis of coastal
bridges.

This journal focuses on the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms in the
study of coastal bridge hydrodynamics. ML models can be trained to learn and infer
relationships between parameters and responses in coastal bridge hydrodynamics. ML
algorithms, such as logistic regression, support vector machines (SVM), random forests (RF),
and artificial neural networks (ANN), have been used to model and predict different aspects
in the behavior of coastal bridges. ML algorithms are used to generate parameterized fragility
functions, construct fragility surfaces, and evaluate the vulnerability and risk of coastal
bridges in other hazardous situations simultaneously. The use of ML in coastal bridge
hydrodynamics offers the potential to improve computational efficiency, applicability, and
accuracy in predicting hydrodynamic forces, evaluating structural response, and performing
risk accumulation analysis.
CHAPTER III RESULT AND DISCUSSION
1.3 Result

ML models can be used to study the complex connections between

contributing and responding standards that are important in coastal bridge
hydrodynamics. The application of ML to coastal bridge hydrodynamics suggests a
way to improve the applicability and computational efficiency of hydrodynamic
analysis. It is determined that numerical simulation is the main source of training data,
except for the prediction of environmental standards, which mostly uses field
observation data.

1.4 Discussion

This journal discusses the application of ML algorithms in various research

topics related to coastal bridge hydrodynamics, highlighting their potential in learning
and inferring relationships between parameters, numbers, and reactions of interest.
The journal also covers the use of physics-based neural networks in fluid dynamics as
an example of ML algorithms applied to coastal bridge hydrodynamics.
CHAPTER IV CONCLUSION

This journal provides a comprehensive review of the application of machine learning

(ML) algorithms in coastal bridge hydrodynamics, highlighting the potential of ML to learn
and infer complex relationships between closed parameters, contributions and responses of
interest in this field. It highlights that ML models can meet the growing need for applicability
and computational efficiency in the analysis of coastal bridge hydrodynamics. The paper also
discusses the theoretical basis of representative MLM algorithms and studies their application
in various research topics related to coastal bridge hydrodynamics. It concludes that ML
technology has the potential to advance research on coastal bridge hydrodynamics and
highlights the need for future research directions to overcome current limitations.
