Situation 10: You will have a problem situation and three options. You will choose the best
option and explain the reason.
- Situation: Your University organizes a campaign with different activities to raise
students’ awareness of animal protection. You are considering what you should do.
There are three options:
1. Adopting a homeless dog or cat at pet caring centers
2. Selling handmade souvenirs or baked products to donate for animal conservation areas
3. Participating in animal drawing or photographing contest

- I choose option 1 for some following reasons:

+ Firstly, ADOPTING MEANS YOU SAVE A LIFE. Shelters for rescue
animals often have limited space. However, if more people adopt pets instead of
buying them, the number of pets that die will decrease significantly. When you
adopt, not only do you save your loving new companion, but you make space for
other animals who desperately need it.
+ Secondly, TRAINING CAN BE EASIER. Rescue groups usually have history
on the animal and the volunteers get to know the animal’s personality. This helps
ease the transition and help you through the introductory period because they
care that the animal goes to a happy home.
+ Moreover, ADOPTING IS MORE AFFORDABLE. Buying a pet is not cheap
and that does not include the cost of spa, first vaccinations. Adoption fees often
include all those post-adoption amenities.

- Honestly, I don’t think option 2 () is a good choice because students may have
trouble in selling if they lack marketing knowledge and may not be able to
make sales.
The same with option 3, the drawing and photography contest is only artistic
and many students are still not aware of the importance of animal protection
and just participate for fun.

- Well, I strongly believe that option 1 is still a great solution for me.

TOPIC 10: Young people tend to commit juvenile crimes for many reasons.

Youngsters’ juvenile crimes

UTH - ILASS
ENGLISH B1.4 – FOR STUDENTS STUDENTS
ONLY

- Nowadays, young people tend to commit juvenile crimes for many reasons:
+ (Negative family environment):
Many scientists have claimed the main reason for this is that nowadays, youth
are growing without paying attention to their parents and also teachers.
Furthermore, children are not taught much and focused on social knowledge
at school.
For example, some children and teenagers do not have a happy life at home
and this leads to some misbehavior in society to attract attention to their
families.

+ (Imitate movies):
Action movies with murders and robberies are popular amongst youth. It can
be clearly seen that these sorts of movies lead to an increase in crime among
teenagers as they try to copy what they have seen in the movies. Therefore,
choosing the right movie has an important influence on young people.

+ (Likes to show off to friends):

Teenagers addicted to alcohol and drugs are more likely to be bullied by
friends than for other reasons. When teenagers fail in school, they turn to
juvenile crime to prove themselves or just for fun.
- In conclusion, parents should pay more attention to their children to avoid
them becoming criminals. The best way to control as well as reduce the
number of crimes is to replace weak sentences with severe punishments such
as going to prison. In addition, the government should more pay attention to
both education and law systems.
