Compact 4010 Duct System for the Ender 3

Multi Head Direct & Bowden Drive Compact Lightweight Extruder

Installation Guide for Ender3 with V6

You will Need the following items in addition to the standard range of
wrenches, side cutters, pliers etc. Please be careful when handling all
cables. The soldering on most budget fans can be very weak and easily
broken. Lik ewise be careful with the heater and thermistor cables.

1. A variety of M3 hex bolts ranging from 6mm – 16mm long.

2. M3 Brass Thermal Inserts. I used the following:

The number of bolts and inserts will depend on the configuration of your
system. Tip…. It is much easier to assemble afterwards if the thermal
inserts are cleared of melted plastic by using a M3 tap to clean them out.
1. Dissemble the existing X Gantry assembly. Insert the 8mm diameter
Spacer or spacers from the existing assembly into the rear mounting
plate. Attached the rear mounting plate to the gantry with the stock M5
bolts, wheels & nuts. I hav e also included some sacrificial lay ers above
nuts sockets in both mounting plates. These will require piercing and
cleaning off before nut insertion.
2. If using a genuine E3d V6 the Thermistor connecting block can be
awkward. I removed the connector and reconnected with heat shrink
and high temp insulation tape. It may still fit but you may not be able to
use the WM clip to secure the cables.
3. After fitting the M3 inserts to the ducts, attach the 4010 fans to the
duct us ing the stock M2 bolts that came with printer. Tip...Use a sharp
blade to create a small chamfer at the start of eac h pilot hole, it will be
muc h easier to start the thread. The M2 x 10 mm should go in the front
lower fix and the M2 x 8 mm to the upper rear.

4. After inserting all the required thermal Inserts into the Duct Base,
attach either the WM Upstand or the Direct Drive stand offs to the Duct
Base with 6 – 8mm bolts before inserting the ducts into the Duct Base.
5. Attach the LH Duct to the front lower fixing. Fix so the nut is to the
lower end of the slot. This will make sure there is enough cable free
when adjusting the height of the duct later. Carefully insert the cable into
the groove provided to keep it clear of the heat sink.
6. Attached the RH fan with the front fix again to the bottom of the slot.

7. Carefully insert the V6 assembly in the Duct base allowing the cables
to run into the WM Upstand.
8. Attach the V6 Retention Clamp, make sure the V6 is parallel and
tighten with 2 x 16 mm M3 bolts.

9. Attach the completed assembly to the X Gantry with 10 -12 mm long

bolt at the rear (see below).
8. Insert 2 x10mm M3 bolts into the rear upper duct fix ings.

9. The ducts should be approximately 1.5 – 2. 5 mm higher than the

nozzle. Home the printer when conv enient and level ducts. I have
provided links in the thing description to a 1 & 2 mm spacer\helper to
mak e this easier.
10. Generally tidy cables and attach the WM clip to retain them.
