AREA 3 ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY Use of Electronic Hand Tools JERICHO VILLAGRACIA

This document classifies and describes various hand tools used in electronic work. It lists 10 common hand tools - desoldering tool, wire splicer, side cutter, long nose pliers, mini drill, magnifying glass, soldering stand, screwdriver, soldering iron, and portable electric drill - and categorizes them as either soldering tools, splicing tools, boring tools, or auxiliary tools. It then provides brief responses to questions about using a low-power soldering iron, the advantages of a foldable magnifying glass with built-in light, using the correctly sized Phillips screwdriver or drill bit, and the purpose of a soldering iron stand.

Direction: Answer briefly the question below.

1. Why is a low-power soldering iron suitable for electronic work?

Answer: When working on computer boards or any electronic equipment, heat can
ruin the item. A low wattage soldering iron it only creates enough heat to melt the
solder. Do not use acid core solder on any electrical type soldering jobs.
2. What are the advantage of using a magnifying glass that is foldable with built-in light?
Answer: The main takeaway with having built-in lights on your magnifying glass is that
it can help immensely with reducing the total amount of magnification needed to
perform the various task you are trying to perform and make the device that much
more capable of assisting with an everyday task.
3. Why is it best to use the right size of Phillips-type screwdriver?
Answer: Because you might loosen the right size of the screw when using the wrong
screw driver size. And to avoid damaging the top part of the screw and you can
remove it easily with the right type of tool.
4. Why is it best to use the right size of drill bit in boring holes?
Answer: it is best to use the right size of drill bit in boring holes because undersized
drilled holes will need to be drilled again while oversized holes will cause wastage in
the material.
5. Why do you think is it best for a soldering iron to have its soldering stand?
Answer: A soldering iron stand is very basic but very useful and handy to have. This
stand helps prevent the hot iron tip from coming in contact with flammable materials
or causing accidental injury to your hand. Most soldering stations come with this built
in and also include a sponge or brass sponge for cleaning the tip.
