17 Sustainable Development Goals

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by UN member states in 2015 as part of a new development agenda. The goals address global challenges like poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. The 17 goals build on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities.

Sustainable Development Goals 47

Key objectives
related to
sustainable
development
and societal
well-being:

Sustainable Development Goals 48

Promoting Sustainable Development: Supporting and
promoting sustainable development is the main objective. This
suggests long-term economic expansion, environmental
preservation, and social advancement.

Creating Peaceful and Inclusive Communities: It is

suggested that sustainable development demands an
environment that is both peaceful and welcoming. Communities
should be places where residents feel comfortable and have a
sense of belonging given that this can enhance civilization.
Sustainable Development Goals 49
Ensuring Access to Justice: It highlights how crucial it is to
make sure that everyone in society has access to justice. This
means that everyone, regardless of background or situation,
should have access to and afford legal rights and remedies.

Creating Effective and Accountable Institutions: The

foundation of sustainable development is thought to be the
creation of effective and transparent institutions. To meet the
demands of the entire people, these institutions must be
competent in their operations, open in their decision-making,
and inclusive in their representation.

Sustainable Development Goals 50
