Developing and Producing an Interactive

Educational Video Material

Course Guide

Introduction

Learning materials in multimedia formats are commonly used in open and distance e-learning
(ODeL). According to Mendes (2016), audiovisual materials “convey things that are difficult to
convert without actual demonstration.” Moreover, the utilization of instructional videos allows
learners to access their learning materials at their own pace and at their own time by pausing or
rewinding the video to fully understand the lesson (Deakin Learning Futures Teaching
Development Team, 2014).

However, as we continue to shift to the “new normal” in education, there is a need to utilize the
available educational programs and toolkits to improve the quality of teaching and learning. One
of the toolkits available can help create an interactive educational video material. HTML 5
Package or H5P. H5P, according to their official website, allows users to “create interactive
content by providing a range of content types for various needs.” The H5P plugin can be added
to learning management systems such as WordPress, Moodle, or Drupal and can also be
integrated via websites that support LTI integration.

With the use of H5P, users may incorporate elements such as questions, pop-up text, images,
and other forms of interactions to their existing videos. By adding interactive elements, student
engagement and interaction can be further enhanced. Moreover, these interactive videos can be
used to provide self-assessment in a digital environment. According to Garcia (2020),
self-assessment activities are essential in creating meaningful learning for the students.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, you shall be able to:

1. Identify and apply the different features of H5P, and

2. Create an interactive learning object using the H5P Interactive Video feature.
Course Outline

C. Exporting the Interactive Video

Course Materials

The following shall be used in this course:

1. Course guide
2. Study guides
3. LUMI Education
4. Learning objects (multimedia materials)
5. Open educational resources (OER) as additional reading and educational video
materials

Majority of the materials are uploaded on the course site. Links to OERs are also provided.

Required Equipment and Software

The following are the hardware and software requirements for this training:
● Laptop/Desktop computer with RAM that should not be less than 4 gigabytes
(GB)
● Stable internet connection (minimum speed is 5mbps)
● Internet browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera,
etc.)

Course Requirements

The course can be taken by anyone who has knowledge and experience using a computer.
Knowledge of using applications to produce multimedia materials is an advantage.

Your learnings from this course will greatly depend on how much effort you put into studying the
module and doing the production.

To be able to get a Certificate of Completion for this course, you must satisfy the following
requirements:
1. Take and pass the Quiz (40% of the final grade) 10/10
2. Submit and pass the Final project (60 % of the final grade) 5/5

The passing grade for this course is 75% or 11.25/15.

If you have any questions about the course requirement, you may contact your training course
coordinator via email. The information about your coordinator is provided at the end of this
course guide.

Learning Activities
The learning activities for this course include the following:

1. Read study guides, learning modules, and other additional learning materials
2. Watch learning materials in video format
3. Take quiz
4. Submit final output

All of the learning activities that are embedded in the study guides, except the assignment and
final project, are optional, but you are highly encouraged to do those activities to maximize your
learning from this course.

Assessment

1. Quiz
This assessment is intended to gauge your understanding of the features of H5P.
This will be a timed multiple-choice quiz. Two attempts will be given and the
average score will determine your final grade for the quiz. Take the quiz before
the course period ends.

2. Final Project

This assignment is intended for you to apply what you have learned from all the
modules.

Guide
1. Your task is to create an interactive learning object using H5P and this base
video: https://youtu.be/zWObAcS7pxU.
2. The requirement for this course is for you to add at least one interaction to
the base video.

Submit your final output to the specific submission bin in .html file

To help organize the assignment files, please save your file using this filename
format: Last name_First name_FinalProject.html

Then, evaluate at least one output of your classmates. Use the rate feature to
grade your classmate’s output. Please prioritize the outputs that do not have
ratings yet.

Use the rubrics below to rate your classmate’s output:

Rate Criteria for Reviewing

1 At least one interaction was used in the video

1 The interaction tools are appropriate to the base video/topic.

1 The placement of interaction tools is appropriate and does not

interfere with the content of the video

1 The interaction tools used are functioning well

1 The timing of the interaction is appropriate to the content of the tool
