Chemistry - Semester 1 - Experiment 3

This experiment involves the titration of a 0.5M aqueous iodine solution (KA1) against a 0.1M sodium thiosulfate solution (KA2) using starch as an indicator. First, 50cm3 of KA1 is mixed with 25cm3 of a solution containing sodium sulfite (KA3) and 2g of sodium hydrogen carbonate (KA4). This is then titrated against KA2. The titration is repeated several times and the average titre volume is calculated. Questions are then asked about balancing the reaction equation, calculating volumes and concentrations of reactants, and determining the percentage purity of the original sodium sulfite.
