Acceptance criteria for mechanical test :

(a) The Tensile Strength (TS) of the welded joint shall be at least equal to the minimum specified Tensile Strength of base material as follow:
‐ first and/or second category minimum tensile strength is 400 N/mm².

(b) the surface shall contain no discontinuities exceeding the following dimensions:
‐ 1/8 in [3 mm] measured in any direction on the surface.
‐ 3/8 in [10 mm]—the sum of the greatest dimensions of all discontinuities exceeding 1/32 in [1 mm] but less than or equal to 1/8 in [3 mm] surface.
‐ 1/4 in [6 mm]—the maximum corner crack, except when that corner crack results from visible slag inclusion or other fusion type discontinuity, then the 1/8 in [3 mm] maximum shall apply.

(c) Minimum value of the absorbed energies at CVN test for base material as follow:
‐ first and/or second category : single value 21 J and average value 28 J
‐ test specimens etched before testing to check that notch location is correct.
(d) The specimen shall be polished and etched for macrographic examination. This examination shall be carried out to ensure good weld profile, reasonable root penetration and freedom from weld defects according to para. 10.2 of
this specification.
(e) The maximum acceptable hardness value in the weld metal and in the HAZ for material special/first category is 300 HV5 or HV10.
