Ethical Considerations

The research will be conducted observing research ethics. A permission to conduct the
study will be sought from the (Officials/Community Leaders) of the locale of study barangay
captain and from the Sitio Leader of Lake Apo, and an Institutional Ethics Review
Committee (IERC) Permit will secured from CMU before the conduct of the study. Likewise,
the interviewers shall explain to the respondents the nature and purpose of the study
conducted and will assure them that their identity would be kept anonymous. They will be
asked to participate, but would be made aware of their right not to answer questions which
they believe are offensive or discriminatory, or to forego their participation should they feel
uncomfortable in the course of the activity.
The respondents will be interviewed in their respective houses. The interview will run
for about an hour. As a token of appreciation for their time and most valued answers, they
will be given a simple token. Likewise, the FGD will be facilitated in a private cottage, to
assure privacy. Those coming from distant places shall be fetched. The FGD will run for
about 2 hours, hence snacks will be afforded. FGD participants will also be given with tokens
as a form of appreciation for their time and willingness to participate.
As a rule, the result of the study will be presented back to the community for
validation before the manuscript shall be finalized.
