Lab Assignment 2-July 2021

This document outlines the details for Lab Assignment 2, which is due on December 1st, 2021. It describes 3 scenarios for students to design PLC programs to simulate using fluid simulation software or PLC programming software. Scenario A involves turning a lamp or buzzer on when a button is pressed, and off when another button is pressed. Scenario B simulates a conveyor belt system that pushes products into a box when 5 products pass a sensor. Scenario C involves a drilling station that clamps a workpiece, drills for 5 seconds, retracts the drill, and then releases the clamp. Students must submit detailed lab reports following the provided rubric. The assessment rubric will be made available on the

Lab Assignment 2

Due date: 1 December 2021

Laboratory Assignment 2 (Maximum 3 students per group)

Using either FluidSIM 4 or Automation Studio or any web based/app based PLC programming
software, design the program for the following scenarios:

(You may use either block diagram, ladder diagram or statement list)

1. Scenario A
Turn on a lamp/buzzer when an (ON) button is pressed. The lamp/buzzer must stay on until
an (OFF) button is pressed.

2. Scenario B
A conveyor belt is carrying product to a boxing station. When five products have passed
through a sensor, a cylinder will extend and push the five products into a box. Sketch the
conveyor system and the boxing station (inclusive of the sensor and cylinder). Design the PLC
program for the sensor and cylinder. Assume that the conveyor is running automatically
without any PLC control.

3. Scenario C
A drilling station involve work piece being clamped by a clamping cylinder. Then the drilling
cylinder will extend and drill the work piece for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, the drilling
cylinder will retract until its fully retracted. Then the clamping cylinder will release the work
piece so that a worker can remove the work piece from the station. Design a PLC program
for the scenario.

Deliverables:

Detail laboratory reports as per laboratory report rubric posted in the VLE

Assessment:

The rubric for the assessment will be made available in the e-learn system.
