Schedule Task

First Exam Topics from Multiple Choice You are expected to recognize the various provisions of the
1st to 3rd National Structural Code of the Philippines, Vol.2 for Bridges,
Week including its definition, classification, components, site selection-
soil exploration and general drawing arrangement.

You are also expected to identify different types of loads acting on

bridges such as forces, deformations and acceleration to properly
design their service lives.

Scoring System:

Multiple-choice question with single correct answer award 100%

points for a correct answer and 0 points for an incorrect answer.

Second Topics from Problem Set You are expected to recognize different types of foundations,
Exam 4th to 5th substructures and bridge bearings together with its importance
Week for load transmission and in accommodating the deformation
caused by load variations.

You are also expected to demonstrate understanding on different

load combinations and distribution based on NSCP Vol. 2
specifications casing the impact analysis and other corresponding
multiplier factors.

Scoring System:

Each problem has corresponding points and your solution will be

graded according to the following criteria: (see attached rubrics)

1. Identify an engineering problem -20%

2. Formulate engineering solutions to a given problem-40%
3. Apply the best solution to an engineering problem- 40%
Third Exam Topics from Problem Set In this part, you are expected to develop an understanding of
6th to 7th concrete bridge planning and design process according to NSCP
Week Vol. 2, including its quality, reliability and construction details.

You are also expected to analyze reinforced concrete and pre-

stressed concrete bridges using different limit states such as
Allowable Stress Design (ASD) method and Load and Resistance
Factor Design (LRFD( method).

Scoring System:

Each problem has corresponding points and your solution will be

graded according to the following criteria: (see attached rubrics)

4. Identify an engineering problem -20%

5. Formulate engineering solutions to a given problem-40%
6. Apply the best solution to an engineering problem- 40%
Plates (Problem Every exam period, you will be given numerous amounts of
Set Compilation) practice problems for you to solve and exercise the knowledge
and skills you learn from your lecture. You need to solve each
problem correctly using the method/s required of you by your
instructor.

Plates are suggested to be in a standard format. This includes (a)

The problem (with a sketch/illustration), (b) quantities with given
values, (c) quantities to be found, and (d) solution to the problem.
Work must be hand-written, neat and readable. Draw a box
around the answer(s) and do not write at the back of the page.

Your instructor will collect and check your plates every exam
period and will return it to you not later than 7 days. Keep it,
because during final exam period you will consolidate everything
and submit a ring-bind compilation.
