Automatic Doors - Operational Guidance

Walk Test - The purpose of the walk test is to check the operation of the sensor controlling the door for range
and coverage and the safe operation of the door.
You are to test the sensor for activation as follows:
Step 1
For a door opening away from the user, test the sensor/s by walking towards the door opening. The door
should start to open when a person is approximately 1400mm from the door. The door should swing smoothly
to the open position and stop without impact.
For a door opening towards the user, the door should start to open when a person is approximately
1400mm plus the width of the leaf of the door,
Step 2
Step out of the detection zone. After a time delay (normally 1 second to 5 seconds) the door should close
smoothly.

Repeat steps 1 & 2 on the other side of the opening if the door has two-way operations

Roller Shutter Doors - Operational Guidance

• Always keep a safe distance when doors are closing / opening

• If you are closing front doors at the end of trade – if you leave
the shutters part closed, a member of the store team must be
stood at the entrance to advise customers not the enter the
store and that the shutter is lowered
• For key activated roller shutters when the shutter has been
opened make sure you remove the keys and store safely
• Be mindful if you have key fob operated doors; these can be
set off accidentally whilst in your pockets
• Bearing in mind your manual handling training following these
precautions to protect your lower back. After unlocking the
shutter crouch down keeping your back straight and your legs
bent. Grasp the handle and open the shutter by straightening
your legs. When fully upright push the shutter all the way up,
keep clear just in case the shutter falls down for any reason.
• If defective report the issue to Maintenance Help-desk
