Using the manual
The AXIS-H EMC workshop manual is divided into several chapters. The different topics
are arranged in these individual chapters.

Not using page numbers was an intentional decision as this workshop manual is to be
extended by additions and further developments to take into account the technical
development of the spreader.

Completely new topics are to be included in new chapters: e.g. 390.

If existing instructions or topics are updated or extended, new pieces of information are
added with a consecutive number:
e.g. old chapter = 390 => Chapter addition 391

This manual has been prepared for practical application directly at the device and is to
guide the user step by step through repairs and troubleshooting.

If any chapters are unclear or not logical, please inform us briefly by email at
[email protected]. We would be pleased to receive your requests and suggestions and
will consider their implementation.

We wish you lot of success in repairing and hope you enjoy working
with the products of

3. Drop point and metering slides

The drop point can be activated separately for each side. This enables different
settings for boundary or section spreading. The drop point actuators communicate
with the implement ECU via a LIN-BUS system.
The metering slides are activated depending on the application rate and forward
speed (= mass flow-rate). Activation is serial; the actuators feature integrated
position determination.

EMC function
Definition:
EMC = Electronic Mass Flow-Control
Mass flow control of the fertiliser on the spreading disc by means of torque
measurement via pressure sensors.
Individual control of the slide opening for the left and right-hand spreading disc.

Basics:
The proportion between pressure and mass flow is absolutely linear (figure 1)
This linearity is independent of the fertilizer (figure 2)

AXIS-H EMC/AXIS-H EMC+W
EMC function
Basic principle:
Hydraulic drive of the spreading discs
1 pressure sensor at every oil motor for recording the pressure at the spreading
disc
1 pressure sensor located at the return flow for compensating the return flow
pressure
From the pressure, the torque and thus the mass flow can be determined
From forward speed, application rate and working width, the target mass flow is
calculated (also depending on the spreading disc speed). If the actual mass flow
deviates from the target mass flow, the position of the metering slide is recalculated.

Implementation:

Disc speed Return flow Oil motor Hydraulic

sensor pressure pressure connections

Checking and setting the metering slide
basic settings
The mechanical basic settings of the metering slides are usually configured in the factory.

The settings should be checked or corrected under the following circumstances:

- Installation of a new metering slide

- Uneven application rate on the left/right-hand side
- Highly unbalanced flow factor on the left and right-hand side

Auxiliary equipment:
- Lower link pins category II (28mm)

1. Basic settings check

Remove the spreading discs.

Remove the retention bolt of the actuators.

The metering slide can now be moved

manually. Open the slide completely.

Place the 28 mm lower link pin from the

bottom or top vertically into the opening and
slowly close the metering slide up to the
bolt.

The bolt has to be positioned in the

centre gap as illustrated.

If the setting is correct, a scale position of

85 must be displayed.

2. Setting adjustment:
Read the scale position.
Correct setting: Position 85

In case of deviations, release the retention

screws of the metering slide scale and
relocate the scale in such a way that
position 85 is displayed.

Re-tighten the screws when the setting is

correct.

Reattach the actuator bolts and secure

them.

Reassemble the spreading discs.

3. After the basic settings are changed, the metering slide actuators have to be
recalibrated => see chapter 4 “Metering slide actuator calibration”

AXIS-H EMC/AXIS-H EMC+W
Retrofitting the LS relief at the block
AXIS H-EMC in LS operation => Speed variations of the spreading discs

For some tractors, a missing and/or insufficient LS relief in the tractor’s hydraulic system
may lead to speed variations of the spreading discs.

Solution: For hydraulic blocks delivered as of calendar week 48/2011, a relief can be
created in the hydraulics block by means of screw-in blinds. The new blocks can be visibly
identified by means of the additional closure screw (labelling).

Upon the release of the closure screw, the M6 sealing plug can be replaced by a blind.
Start with a 0.3 mm blind.
If the improvement is insufficient, test the further sizes 0.5 / 0.6 / 0.7.
The blinds are available as spare parts set under order no. 2057677.

AXIS-H EMC/AXIS-H EMC+W
Retrofitting the LS relief at the block
Before installing a bypass through the blind at the hydraulics block of the spreader, it is to
be ensured at the tractor and the spreader that the hydraulic system is functioning correctly:

1. Tractor
o Stand-by pressure (for most tractors, it is between 20 and 25 bar; please
note that, with units of some manufacturers, the activation of the control
units or the automatic steering increases the stand-by pressure to up to
50 bar.
o Size of the free return flow of the tractor is sufficient, return flow filter is clean
o LS line closed correctly; in case of retrofitted power-beyond solutions, please
check that the replacement valve has been mounted correctly
o Sufficient hydraulic power
o Impacts due to steering movements or other consumer units cannot be
compensated

2. Spreader
o Proportional valve vented
o Pressure scales not contaminated (spreader does not reach speed on one
side and/or runs noisily)
o LS screw completely turned in
o Speed sensors in an impeccable condition
o Cabling of proportional valves and sensors is in an impeccable condition

Venting proportional valves
Requirements:
- Replacement of a proportional valve
- Spreading disc speed fluctuations despite constant oil supply.

Oil escapes during venting. Please provide suitable means of collection.

Legal regulations for environmental protection must be observed at all times.
During venting, the spreading discs are rotating. Ensure that no persons are
behind the spreader or disassemble the spreading discs.

Preparation:
- Drive via Load Sensing: Start the tractor, slightly increase the engine RPM of the
tractor.
- Drive via constant flow: Start the tractor, slightly increase the engine RPM of the
tractor, activate the control unit.

Venting:
- Remove the plastic caps from the proportional valves.

- Untighten the counter nut in counter-unclockwise direction until the nut is only
slightly attached to the screw.

- Slowly screw in the threaded bolt.

3. Determine and/or enter the efficiency of the gear unit
After final assembly of the spreader in the factory, the efficiency of the gear
unit is checked in a test bay and entered in the software.
After repair or replacement of the gear unit, this value may need to be
checked or corrected. Indications include:
i. Uneven emptying of the spreader
ii. Incorrect application rate

Prior to work, check the spreading discs and spreading vanes for wear and for fertiliser
deposits. Otherwise, the results may be incorrect.

+ Compare the quantity spread according to

the trip counter with the quantity displayed by
the scales
+ Check whether the spreader is discharged
unevenly (! No boundary spreading and no
section control activated!)

FF too low => Increase efficiency

FF too high => Reduce efficiency
Application rate too high => Increase
efficiency
Application rate too low => Decrease
efficiency
Balanced discharge => Adjust the efficiency
on both sides
Unbalanced discharge => Check whether too
much or too little fertiliser is applied and
adjust the efficiency accordingly on one side

Note: If the efficiencies determined in the factory are lost after an update, these can
be obtained from the Rauch technical customer service. For this purpose, the
serial number of the spreader is required.

TOPIC Further developments - AXIS-H EMC

Agitator drive
After longer distances, the compression of the fertilizer
may lead to an excessive start-up resistance at the
agitator drive and the “Agitator blockage” alarm is
displayed.

Several components of the agitator drive have been

further developed.
• The gearbox ratio has been modified from 7:1 to
10:1 which leads to a start-up torque that is
increased by 40 %.
• The wire cross sections in the machine cable have Figure 1: New agitator motor
been increased from 3 mm² to 5 mm² to considerably
reduce the voltage drop.
• The agitator is activated with a delay after the
metering slide and drop point actuators.

The new agitator motor (order no. 2058051) will be

installed as a standard beginning September 2014.
The new cable harness (order no. 2058201) is installed
as a standard as of May 2014.
The new software V 3.00.00 with modified start-up
behaviour of the agitator motor will be installed as a
standard beginning September 2014.
Return pressure sensor
The measuring diaphragm in the sensor has been
modified. The bursting pressure is now over 200 bar and
offers improved protection if the return hose is not or
incorrectly connected.

The new sensor (order no. 2057890) is backward-

compatible and has been installed as a standard as of
AXIS-H EMC S/N 09-39100.

Control block venting
Air in the hydraulic system may cause speed fluctuations
of the spreading discs at various points in operation.
The internal structure of the proportional valves has
been modified for easier venting.

The new proportional vales have been installed into the

control blocks as of production week 06/2014
(nameplate)

TOPIC AXIS-H EMC Release of Software Version 3.01.00

The AXIS-H EMC software version 2.08.00 has been further developed to meet new practical
requirements.
Operation via joystick, easy switching between boundary and border spreading, direct input of
the application rate on the operating screen and further functions have been implemented.

The new software version 3.01.00 is now released after successful testing and certification by
the AEF.www.aef-isobus-database.org
The software version 3.01.00 is available for download in the RAUCH portal for business
partners.

Joystick operation
Operation by means of the AUX N joystick MFG 4 by
WTK Elektronik is released.
The joystick is also available from RAUCH
(order no. 2057592).

With software version 3.01.00, the file [Aux2file.dat]

with a default key assignment for WTK AUX N
joysticks (as of version 6.11) is installed.
The key assignment can also be customised and
saved.
Figure 1

For other AUX N joysticks, the assignment has to be

defined and saved once.

Figures 1 – 3 illustrate the default assignment of the

three levels.

Figure 2

• AUX O (old) is not supported!

• The ISOBUS terminal used must also support
AUX N
• For John Deere GS 2630 terminals, at least
software version 3.25.1152 needs to be
installed.
Under version 3.22.1095 or older, occasional log
out of the WTK joystick occurs.

Figure 3

Switchable border and boundary spreading

The individual values for border and boundary
spreading can be entered in the fertiliser settings and
saved in the fertiliser chart.
A soft key in the main menu (figure 4) enables
switching between border and boundary spreading.
In case of operation via joystick, switching is enabled
on level 1 (figure 1).

Figure 4

The current state is displayed in the working screen

(figure 5).

Figure 5

Adaptive idle measurement

The time between 2 idle measurements is now calculated according to the type and speed of
the spreading discs, considerably reducing the number of idle measurements. In case of low oil
temperatures, an alarm message is displayed.

Agitator drive
The agitator drive is now switched on 3 seconds after opening the metering sliders. The drive is
started with 5 starting pulses at increased power for easier loosening of compressed fertiliser.

Target application rate input in the working

screen
In the working screen, the target application rate can
be selected directly and the new target quantity
entered in the input mask.

Automatic calculation of the VariSpread

section table
The VariSpread table is automatically calculated
after entering the data on page 1-4.
If the table is changed directly (working width, DP,
RPM), -0% instead of AUTO is displayed in the last
column. With the “Calculate VariSpread” function,
the required new calculation has to be carried out
manually.

Figure 7

Drop Point at deactivated sections

If all sections of one side are deactivated, the larger
DP is now automatically set to reduce the reaction
time at reactivation.

Figure 8

Electrical hopper cover

The electrical hopper cover is controlled via LIN Bus.
It is activated in the machine options.
In the main menu, the operating side (figure 9) is
selected with the “Hopper cover” soft key.

Figure 9

Weigh cell-based level sensor

The “Hopper empty!” alarm is displayed if a
predefined minimum weight is reached.

The weigh cell-based level sensor is activated in the

machine options and the minimum weight is entered
in the machine settings.

TOPIC Efficiency labels on the EMC transmission

All M-EMC and H-EMC transmissions are tested on a specifically developed load test
bench prior to installation. Here, the efficiency and control parameters are determined.
These parameters are the basis of the exact control of the systems.

Problem:
In case of service, e. g. if a QUANTRON or an implement ECU is exchanged, the parameters
must be re-entered in the control unit of the relevant machine.
In the past, these parameters had to be requested by telephone from the RAUCH customer
service.

Improvement:
Since 10/10/2014 (AXIS # 39602), each transmission is equipped with a label:

Example: H-EMC serial number 1631 Example: M-EMC serial number M0323

The label is located at the front of the relevant transmission in the direction of travel

This means that in the case of service, the parameters can be read from the label and entered
in the control unit.
The parameters are still stored in a database so that the corresponding parameters can be
requested from the technical customer service of RAUCH Landmaschinenfabrik GmbH by
quoting the transmission number or the serial number of the spreader if the label is
mechanically damaged.
