1.1 Seven roles of the educator


1. As Learning mediator –
- She meets with parents of the learner who failed the previous term.
-She want to go over the section of work that the class has failed
2. As interpreter and designer of learning programme
- Identify the requirements for a specific context of learning and select and prepare suitable
textual and visual resources for learning

3. Leader, administrator and manager


-She serves as an administrator- meeting with the parents of the failed learner
-She has to go to the OBE and curriculum 2005 workshop
-She wants to prepare parents meeting.
- Adjusting her plans for the next day
4. Scholar, researcher and lifelong learner
-She went to the new lesson
-She went to in-service training
5. Community, citizenship and pastoral role
-She has a family that she sort out before she goes to work
-she uses the same mode of transport as the community
-She chats with her colleagues about what she heard on the radio
6. Assessor
-She attends workshops for OBE and curriculum 2005
-HOD is asking previous assessments reports from her
7. Learning area/subject/discipline/phase specialist
- Cynthia is attending workshops on OBE and curriculums, she is also doing some new
lessons to improve herself.
1.2 Cynthia is not playing less on any of this roles
She is trying all her best to do all what are on her daily list and she is also prepares her
next job and the following jobs are also prepared. She also study extra lessons and she is
doing the in-house training to get herself developed and improved for new thing in the
curriculum. She is introducing the new section of work which is the new addition to the
curriculum. She goes over again to the section that the class did not perform well with it,
by so doing the knowledge will be rooted.
She engage herself with the community by engaging with parents meeting and she uses
the same mode of transport with the community.
1.3 Comparing roles and 5 (five) qualities of the good teacher

a. Quality -The ability to develop relationships with their students

b. Quality-Patient, caring and kind personality
>Role - Interpreter and designer of learning programmes and materials
-The educator will also select, sequence and pace the learning in a manner sensitive
to the differing needs of the subject/learning area and learners.
c. Quality -Knowledge of learners
> Role -Mediator
-The educator will mediate learning in a manner which is sensitive to the diverse
needs of learners, including those with barriers to learning; construct learning
environments that are appropriately contextualised and inspirational; communicate
effectively showing recognition of and respect for the differences of others
D. Quality -Dedication to teaching
>Role -Scholar, researcher and lifelong learner
-The educator will achieve ongoing personal, academic, occupational and
professional growth through pursuing reflective study and research in their learning
area
e. Quality -Engaging students in learning
>Role -Leader, administrator and manager
-The educator will make decisions appropriate to the level, manage learning in the
classroom and carry out classroom administrative duties efficiently
1.4 All of these roles are important because they all plays an important part in shaping the
educator and helping the educator to understand what to expected from him/ her as an
educator.
They also helps the educator to become know his/ her importance in the country as a
whole not just in the classroom.
Learning mediator- they need come with the strategies to inspire the learners by
breaking all the learning barriers that can cause apathy on the learners.
Scholar, researchers and the lifelong learner – the good educator does not get tired of
learning new things during their time in the education and after.
Assessor- She is able to provide helpful feedback,
Leader, administrator and manager- She plans her jobs on time, she makes her way home with a
pile of marking and a reminder on her draft for the next term.
Community, citizenship and pastoral role –She listens to the principal talking about the violence
and she announces about the career planning.
Learning area/subject/discipline/phase specialist- she attends in-service training and she is also
doing extra lessons to equip herself in the curriculum.
Interpreter and designer of learning programmes and materials-She identify the requirements
for the specific context, the announcement of the career planning and the need to introduce the
new section of work.

2. The kind of learners that are envisaged in the NCS


-They are lifelong learners, who are confident and independent, literate and numerate.
These learners are intended to develop to their full potential, be compassionate and

respectful of the environment, and participate as active and responsible citizens in our
society (DoE, 2002:8)

 Lifelong learners > Role- Scholar, researcher and lifelong learner they are willing to
learn more thing and new thing on daily basis and they are always in touch with
technology which is boosting their knowledge better.
 Respectful of the environment, and participate as active and responsible citizens in
our society >Community, citizenship and pastoral role- This learners they equip
themselves by engaging with the community activities.
 Be compassionate and respectful > Interpreter and designer of learning programmes
and materials- The learner knows the computer best and they are exposed to too
much technology because of the phones they are using. They are always curious to
know new things.
 Confident and independent, literate and numerate >Learning mediator- This kind of
learners don’t rely much on teachers and parents as they are always on technology
looking for any kinds of information to equip themselves academically.
 Assessor > intended to develop to their full potential – they work harder on their
studies.
 They participate >Interpreter and designer of learning programmes and materials – they are
always involved in many activities. They can come peer advisors and community shapers at
young age.
