Storage : Store all steel reinforcement above the ground to prevent rusting and
accumulation of dirt. Cover steel reinforcement with plastic sheets to avoid
getting wet in the rain.

8.0 PLANT, MACHINERY, EQUIPMENT & TOOLS

Cranes, cutting machines, bar bending machines, etc.

9.0 PREPARATORY WORKS

9.1 Obtain all relevant approved structural drawings from client/consultant.

9.2 Prepare reinforcement schedule for all structural members (columns, beams, slabs, staircases,
lift corewalls, retaining walls, etc).

9.3 Carry out receiving inspection of steel reinforcement as per inspection and test plan and
delivery order.

9.4 During delivery, ensure reinforcement type, size, batch no. and quantity received are as stated
on Delivery Order. Verify Mill Certificate received against delivery.

10.0 WORK METHODOLOGY

10.1 Carry out cutting and bending of reinforcement bars as per reinforcement schedule at the
fabrication yard. Do not re-bend or straightened previously bent reinforcement. Arrange and
mark reinforcement bars according to structural members references.

10.2 Transport readily cut and bent reinforcement bars to designated location of use.

10.3 Clean reinforcement bars to remove loose rust mill scale, earth and other materials may effect
bonding with concrete.

10.4 Ensure that the sleeves, opening and recesses for M&E services are provided before placing
the steel reinforcement.

10.5 Arrange, space and tie reinforcement bars with wires to hold accurately and firmly in position.

10.6 Fix welded fabric reinforcement as follow or as specified in the drawings :

-At the bottom of the slab, place the longitudinal bars underneath.
-At the top of the slab, place the longitudinal bars uppermost.

10.7 Set-out the positions of the starter bars and fix them accurately.

10.8 Support steel reinforcement by chairs, runners, bolsters, spacers or hangers as appropriate.
use links to support top steel reinforcement. Ensure the concrete supports and spacer blocks
are made of the same concrete grade for the structure.

10.9 Ensure that lap and joints including lapping bars, sleeving, threading and other mechanical
connections are approved by the structural consultants.

10.10 Provide minimum concrete cover between steel reinforcement and forms for concrete protection
as shown in Table 1 or as specified in the drawings/specifications.

10.11 Set wire ties with the twisted end directed away from the exposed concrete surface or concrete
covers.

10.12 Carry out joint inspection with SO’s Representative on all steel reinforcement placed to comply
with the construction drawings and criteria listed in the Pre-Concreting Checklist as per
concreting work method statement.
