SCI-MATH QUIZ BEE

Mechanics
(HIGH SCHOOL)
GENERAL RULES:
1. The Sci-Math Quiz Bee is an individual competition.
2. An elimination round will be done to come up with a list of participants who will
compete for the final round.
3. The quiz bee will be divided into three (3) rounds: Easy, Average, and Difficult
round. In case of a tie, there will be the Clincher round.
4. English will be used as the medium for asking questions.
5. Clarifications regarding the rules of the competition shall be entertained before the
start of the quiz bee. Any protest within the contest shall be entertained by the
Board of Judges and whatever decision made by the board is final.
6. Any protest will be entertained after each round.
7. All scores will be tabulated after each round.
EASY, AVERAGE, DIFFICULT, and CLINCHER ROUNDS:
1. The set of questions will be a combination of Science and Math topics/concepts.
There will be 6 conceptual questions for Easy, 8 conceptual questions for the
Average rounds; and 10 computational questions for the Difficult rounds. In case of
tie, there will be 5 questions for the Clincher rounds.
2. There will be options for Easy and Average round questions. In Difficult and
Clincher rounds, the participants should identify the answer as described or stated
in every question.
3. Each question shall be given a predetermined number of points corresponding to
its round.
Easy - 1 point
Average - 3 points
Difficult - 5 points
Clincher - 5 points
4. Each participant shall prepare their illustration board, marker/chalk, and eraser.
5. The questions shall be read twice. Afterward, the quiz master will say “GO”, only
then the participants may start writing their answers on the illustration board, and
at the same time, the start of the countdown timer. When the quiz master says,
“TIME’S UP”, all participants should raise their boards and show their final answers
after the time allotted for the specific question. The allotted time for conceptual
questions will be ten (10) seconds and for computational questions will be twenty
(20) seconds. The proctor will read and verify the answers of each participant.
6. The following cases will be considered incorrect answers:
a. An answer with an incorrect unit or value.
b. An answer with incorrect spelling.
7. Misbehavior of a contestant during the contest, as determined by the proctors, is a
sufficient condition for disqualification of the contestant.
8. No questions shall be entertained during the contest proper.
9. After the three rounds (Easy, Average, and Difficult), the participant with the
highest score gathered shall be declared the winner.
10. In case of a tie, participants with the same score will proceed to the clincher round.
11. Participants who attained 60% of the total score will be ranked and announced as
the winners.
