2nd ENGLISH OLYMPICS 2019

Theme: “Engaging Challenges through Creative Arts, Public Speaking and Writing”

ESSAY WRITING CONTEST MECHANICS AND CRITERIA

1. The contest is open to all competing group.


2. Each group shall have ONE (1) contestant.
3. Each participant should submit ONE (1) entry only.
4. The composition must express, interpret, and emphasize this year’s theme: “Engaging
Challenges through Creative Arts, Public Speaking and Writing”
5. Entries must be submitted during Essay Contest Proper on November 28, 2019. The essay
must be done in free hand and be officially submitted to Mr. Rogelio Tarroza.
6. Failure to submit the entry on the said date corresponds to disqualification of the participants.
The essayist will be held accountable to any issues that may arise with regard to the originally
and authenticity of the composition.
7. The essays will be judged accordingly to the following criteria:
Creativity 40%
Structure 20%
Adherence to Topic/Theme 20%
Grammar 20%_
TOTAL 100%

Mastery of the piece (knowledge of material, hesitation, confusion, necessity for prompting)
20%
Enunciation (articulation, pronunciation, projection, pitch, and vocal quality) 20%
Interpretation (comprehension and proper emphasis, creation of mood, phrasing, contrast,
expression, spiritual or emotional effect) 30%
Performance (proficient delivery, personal appearance, stage presence, organization of thought)
30%
Costume/Props 10%
TOTAL 100%
9. There will be one winner to declare. The pointing system is as follows:

Champion 5 points
1st 4 points
2nd 3 points
3rd 2 points
4th 1 point
5th 1 point
