Objective:
• The objective of this activity is to enhance the
proficiency of mechanical engineering students in
producing precise lines, arcs, and shapes using
drawing instruments to create technical drawings.
Materials Required:
1. 8 x 11.5 in. sheet of high-quality drawing paper with
pre-marked layout
2. Fine pencil
3. Ruler with millimeter markings
4. Technical pens: 0.6mm and 0.2mm (or 0.5mm and
0.1mm)
5. Eraser
6. 60- and 45-degree triangles
7. Compass
PLATE No 3: Drawing the Geneva Cam Deadline: Fri, 10-20-2023
Procedure:
1. Initiate by locating the center of the layout drawing space
using diagonal lines as reference points. This is crucial for
ensuring accurate placement of the Geneva Cam.
2. Identify the centers of the circular features that constitute the
Geneva Cam. Begin sketching the Geneva Cam according
to the design provided.
3. Follow the provided measurements and create construction
lines and arcs within the layout using your ruler, pencil, and
compass. Precise construction lines are vital for achieving a
detailed and accurate Geneva Cam drawing.
4. Once you are satisfied with the pencil drawing, proceed to
trace over it with a technical pen. Utilize the appropriate pen
thickness (0.6mm and 0.2mm or 0.5mm and 0.1mm) based
on the type of line required. It's essential to maintain a
steady hand to ensure consistent line thickness and a
professional finish.
5. Exclude any metric dimensions and instructional notes,
focusing solely on the lines themselves. All measurements
should be in millimeters, and the focus should be on the
quality and accuracy of the drawing.

Tips:
• Pay careful attention to the precision of your construction
lines and arcs, as they form the foundation of your
Geneva Cam drawing.
