Essential Questions: What are the causes of World War 1?

How did World War 1 impact daily


life for soldiers and people at home? What were the effects of World War 1?
November 6 – Monday
Objective: I can recall the effects of the Congress of Vienna after Napolean’s reign.
Standards: SS-WH.9-12.20. Evaluate methods used to change or expand systems of
power and/or authority.
SS-WH.9-12.25. Determine multiple and complex causes and effects of historical events
within world history.
5 min – Anticipatory set - KWL – what do they know about World War 1? What do they
want to learn? (on paper)
With every essential question, they will fill out the Learned portion of the KWL
Notes: What is the Congress of Vienna?

3 min – Closure – Predictions – students will make predictions about how Europe is
going to react after the Congress of Vienna

November 7 – Tuesday – Mock Evaluation (2nd)


Objective: I can discuss how the crisis in the Balkans led to high tensions in Europe.
Standard: SS-WH.9-12.23. Critique primary and secondary sources of information with
attention to the source of the document, its context, accuracy, and usefulness of sources
throughout world history.
SS-WH.9-12.25. Determine multiple and complex causes and effects of historical events
within world history.
SS-WH.9-12.14. Compare various systems of government, such as monarchies,
democracies/republics, empires, and dictatorships, and their methods of maintaining
order and/or control.
SS-WH.9-12.18. Assess impact of conflict and diplomacy on international relations.
3 min – Think-Pair-Share
20 min - Gallery walk? - different background, maps, and maybe some primary sources

10 min – discussion pulling main ideas together

2 min – closure - Put in your two cents – this will be a part of their worksheet, but they
will put in their two cents about the topic
November 8 – Wednesday
Objective: I can describe the rivalries that led to World War 1.
Standards: SS-WH.9-12.25. Determine multiple and complex causes and effects of
historical events within world history.

from multiple sources to detect inconsistencies in evidence in order to revise or
strengthen claims.

10 min – Look over last weeks’ CER to fill in gaps
30 min – Provide multiple sources about the cause of World War 1. Give the class the
period to read the sources and pick out evidence to make a claim.
For those who get done early, challenge them to put their CER into a written paragraph

Students in groups or by themselves will choose a new technology piece and try to sell it.
