“OB is a branch of the social systems that seeks to build theories that can be applied to
predicting, understanding, and controlling behavior in work organizations.”

Organizational behavior or organizational behaviour is the "study of human behavior in


organizational settings, the interface between human behavior and the organization, and
the organization itself".

Organizational behavioral research can be categorized in at least three ways:

1. individuals in organizations (micro-level)


2. work groups (meso-level)
3. how organizations behave (macro-level)

According to Davis and Newstram, “Organizational behaviour is the study and


application of knowledge about how people act within organizations.”

According to Fred Luthans, “Behaviour is directly concerned with the understanding,


prediction and control of human behaviour in organizations.”

Key elements of organizational behavior include the study of individual behaviors, group
dynamics, organizational culture, communication patterns, leadership, motivation, and
conflict resolution. It also looks at how organizational structures, policies, and practices
influence employee behavior and overall organizational performance.
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS AND OBJECTIVES OF ORGANIZATION

The goals of OB (organizational behavior) are to explain, predict, and influence behavior.
Managers need to be able to explain why employees engage in some behaviors rather
than others, predict how employees will respond to various actions and decisions, and
influence how employees behave.

Organizational Behavior (OB) is a multidisciplinary field and a vast course that explores
the dynamics within an organization, focusing on the behavior of individuals, groups,
and the overall structure.
It is a crucial aspect of management in organizations and involves studying how people
interact, communicate, and collaborate within the workplace.
The main characteristics and objectives of organizational behavior plays a pivotal role in
identifying factors responsible for organizational development and its improvement.
Some main objectives are briefly mentioned as under:
— Job Satisfaction:
Job satisfaction mean that how much a person or employ is satisfied with his
job by doing work in organization or within the workplace environment. As
in any organization, employ’s satisfaction and well-being is more concerned
for company and for managers because it foster a positive work environment
and Address factors contributing to stress and dissatisfaction.

— Finding the Right People:


For any organization the biggest asset is their best employees and to hire
right person for right job is very difficult now a days. It is a biggest hustle of
modern world that organization are rarely unable to find right people.
Through the study of individual and group behavior, OB helps identify key
performance drivers.

— Organizational Culture:
The culture of Organization are the most crucial part which plays important
contribution toward the success and development of company. The culture
ultimately defines the positive outlook by focusing on humanistic values, OB
contributes to the development of a positive organizational culture. A
positive culture is also essential for attracting and retaining talent.

— Leadership and Conflict Resolution:


The leadership around the employees not only show the flow of command
but also reflect the management ways behind the company and within the
instructions from topline managers to ordinary employees. It not only
contains the best leads activity of members but also resolve the pre and post
conflicts with its outstanding performances.

— Higher Productivity:
Organizational behavior let us allow to Identify and implement strategies for
enhancing individual and team productivity. It Improve efficiency through
a better understanding of work behaviors.
We could study how motivational theories and performance management
strategies contribute to enhancing individual and team productivity.

— Adapting to Change:
In organization there is always certain situations occurs which bound us
toward change and the contingency approach of OB allows organizations to
adapt to market change. With the Flexibility and agility in response to
environmental shifts contribute to long-term development.

Organizational behavior is that part of the whole management that
represents the behavioral approach to management. Organizational
behavior has emerged as a distinct field of study because of the importance
of human behavior in organizations. The actual management held in
organizations are only possible to recognized the organizational behavioral
approached immensely.

— Cause and Effect Relationship:


The causes and effect relationships are human behavior is generally taken in
terms of cause-and-effect relationships and not in philosophical terms. It
helps in predicting the behavior of individuals. It provides generalizations
that managers can use to anticipate the effect of certain activities on human
behavior.

— Branch of Social Sciences:


Organizational behavior is heavily influenced by several other social sciences
viz. psychology, sociology, and anthropology. It draws a rich array of
research from these disciplines. Although many authors had did research
inside this field but manly can’t be recognized as single sole science field.

— A Science as well as an Art:


Organizational behavior is a science as well as an art. Systematic knowledge
about human behavior is a science and the application of behavioral
knowledge and skills is an art. Organizational behavior is not an exact science
because it cannot exactly predict the behavior of people in organizations. At
best a manager can generalize to a limited extent and in many cases, he has
to act on the basis of partial information.

— Rational Thinking:
Organizational behavior provides rational thinking about people and their
behavior. The major objective of organizational behavior is to explain and
predict human behavior in organizations so that result-yielding situations
can be created. The logical responses and reasons are the best way to argue
with respect to legal documents or persons within the organizations.
How much Objectives and Characteristics of organization behavior help to
identify the factors responsible for development?

The objectives and characteristics of Organizational Behavior collectively serve as a


framework for understanding, managing, and improving the human aspects of
organizations. By addressing these aspects, organizations can systematically identify and
leverage the factors responsible for their development, creating a positive and effective
working environment.

The objectives and characteristics of Organizational Behavior (OB) play a pivotal role in
identifying the factors responsible for the development of an organization. The focus on
individual and group behavior within OB allows for a nuanced understanding of how
