Duolingo is a free language learning platform available as a mobile app and website. It was developed by Louis von Ahn and Severin Hacker to provide an accessible, gamified way for users to learn languages. Duolingo offers courses in many languages with interactive lessons that incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening exercises. Development and purpose: Duolingo was developed by Louis von Ahn and Severin Hacker.

It was
created with the main goal - to provide a free, accessible and gamified platform for people to learn
languages. It was designed to make language learning fun, interactive and effective.

Main Features and Functionality: Duolingo offers a wide range of functions, including:

• Gamified Lessons: Learning is structured as a game with grades, levels and achievements.

• Courses in multiple languages: Duolingo offers a wide range of languages to study.

• Interactive exercises: Users practice listening, speaking, reading and writing in the language being
studied.

• Progress Tracking: Students can track their progress and set goals.

• Mobile and web access: Duolingo is available on various devices.

• Duolingo Plus (subscription): without ads and with additional features.

• Type of e-learning and asynchrony: Duolingo primarily belongs to the category of asynchronous e-
learning. Students can access lessons and do exercises at their own pace, making it suitable for self-
study. They can choose when and where they want to study. However, Duolingo has implemented a
feature called Duolingo Events that allows users to join live synchronous events for language
practice. These classes are less common and are an addition to standard asynchronous learning. The
main reason for asynchrony is to ensure flexibility and diversity of student schedules.

Duolingo is usually considered convenient for both students and teachers, but it is important to note
some aspects specific to each group:

for students:

• Intuitive Interface: The Duolingo interface is designed to be intuitive and attractive. It uses a playful
approach with visually appealing graphics and simple navigation, which makes it convenient for
students of all ages.

• Progress Tracking: Students can easily track their progress, see their achievements and set goals.
This helps to motivate and guide them in the process of learning a language.

• Mobile Accessibility: Duolingo offers mobile applications for various platforms, allowing students
to learn on the go, which is convenient for many users.

• Free Access: The main features of Duolingo are free, making it accessible to a wide audience. There
is also a premium subscription option (Duolingo Plus), which allows you to use the service without
ads and additional features.
For teachers:

• Duolingo for Schools: Duolingo provides a separate platform called "Duolingo for Schools"
designed for teachers and classrooms. This allows teachers to monitor the progress of their
students, assign lessons and track their progress.

• Individualization of the lesson: teachers can choose specific lessons and exercises for their
students, adapting the learning process to the objectives of the lesson.

• Progress Reports: Duolingo for Schools provides detailed progress reports for each student,
helping teachers identify areas where students may need additional support.

• Ease of implementation: Teachers can set up and manage their virtual classrooms relatively easily,
making them a convenient tool for foreign language teachers.

Classroom Integration/Implementation:

In classroom we can use this app like a workbook. Each student need to create their own account
and teacher will check it when they done with tasks in app. Also only teacher can register and show
the apps tests with the interactive whiteboard. Then students will answer one by one.

Benefits and Advantages:

And in there we had grammar instruction, vocabulary and small histories with a lot of topics, that
helps to improve your writing and reading skills. And also listening tasks, and audio tasks that helps
to our speaking and listening skills.

It's easy to use, in there we had 27 languages to learn. Free to download.

And also in there you will learn due to your level. In the beginning of the registration, they will ask
you if you already learned this language or not. If you learning first time you will start from
elementary tasks, but if you learned already they will you need to pass the test, and duolingo will
continue by your answers level.

You can work with your mistakes.

Disadvantages:

Only 4 languages for Russian speakers.

To learn new language you need to know another language.

You can retake the test only 5 times.

Limited learning.

Challenges and Solutions:

On the main page there are stairs that show where you are staying. If you have made progress on
each ladder, then the teacher can know by looking at this page.
