Reviewer For Math (3rd)

The document is a math reviewer for a university exam that contains information on geometric means and geometric sequences. It provides the definitions of geometric mean and geometric sequence. Examples of calculating the geometric mean are given. The reviewer also includes a memorization chart of numbers, perfect squares and cubes. Sample problems on calculating the sum of a geometric sequence are worked out. The reviewer encourages students and wishes them success in their academic year.

REVIEW GEOMETRIC MEANS

Geometric mean - is any term between two terms of a geometric

sequence.

geometric means

geometric sequence

Formula:

m= aₙ - a₁
Examples

1.) 5, 35, 245 2.) 8, 16, 32 3.) -6, 3, -3/2

m= aₙ - a₁ m= aₙ - a₁ m= aₙ - a₁
m= 245·5 m= 32·8 m= -3/2·-6
m= 1,225 m= 256 m= 9

m = ± 35 m = ± 16 m= ±3

REVIEW GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE

Geometric sequence - an ordered set of numbers that progresses

by multiplying or dividing each term by a common ratio.

9, 27, 81, 243, 729, 2187

geometric means

geometric sequence

Formula:

Sₙ = a₁ (1 - rⁿ)

Term Definitions:

Sₙ → sum

a₁ → first term

r → ratio (difference between two means

n → number of terms
