SELF-ASSESSMENT

THE ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENT

(OCAI)

You are asked to assess/rate your organisation against a number of dimensions. By

organisation it is meant the organisation that is managed by your boss or your strategic
business unit to which you belong or the organisation unit in which you are a member that has
clearly defined boundaries (for young students, please refer to your longer and more
significant internship experience).

The questionnaire consists of 6 sections/dimensions. Each section has 4 alternatives. For each
question divide 100 points amongst the 4 alternatives, depending on how you see the
organisation.

Guidelines :

Step 1
In the column headed NOW divide the 100 points in terms of how you believe the
organisation is today. Do this for each of the 6 sections. Ensure that for each section the
scores add up to 100.

Step 2
In the column headed PREFERRED divide the 100 points in terms of how you believe the
organisation should be in the future to be highly effective. Do this for each of the 6 sections.
Ensure that for each section the scores add up to 100.

Step 3
Complete the scoring sheet. Draw the final results in the scheme. Use two different colors –
one for the NOW culture, one for the PREFERRED culture.

The results will be debriefed during class. Please remember to bring the results to class.
