This course is designed for prospective building and construction engineers. The major focus of the course is on
developing mathematical reasoning and thinking. This course encourages students to formulate conjectures and
to explore mathematical concepts through investigations, use of technology, analytical and logical thinking. This
course is designed to develop students' problem solving, mathematical reasoning and communication skills that
are essential to become effective building and construction engineers. The mathematical content of this course
will include topics from Partial Derivatives, Deferential Equations, Vector.
Theory: 3hrs/week
7. Number of tuition hours (total)
Tut.: 1 hr/week
Total tuition hours: 60hrs/semester
This course aims to develop the students’ confidence and skill in dealing with mathematical expressions, to
extend their understanding of calculus, and to introduce some topics which they may not have met at the first
year. It also aims to ease the transition to engineering works and to encourage the student to develop good study
skills. Mathematics is to be used as acalculating and graphical aid.Upon completing this course, the student will
have learned, through appropriate classroom experiences, the following.
•Develop a good understanding of applying partial derivatives and solving first, second and higher order
differential equations.
•To acquire skills needed to integrate functions of all types
•To be prepared for higher level mathematical courses.
•Develop techniques for solving problems that may arise in everyday life.
Theoretical lectures, practical laboratory experiments, discussion and dialogue, brain storming, examples and
questions used to achieve the goals.
Assessment Methods
Daily exams, quizzes, documented examinations, quarterly exams, final exams, oral questions and discussions
during the lectures, and home works.
