Steps For Task-2

The document describes the steps to develop digital elevation model (DEM), slope, and aspect maps in ArcGIS. It involves downloading DEM data from USGS, mosaicking the tiles, and extracting the DEM for the study area using a mask. It also describes calculating slope from the DEM using the Slope tool and reclassifying the slope values into fewer classes.

DAY-2 (01-11-2023)

Task-2: Develop DEM, SLOPE, and ASPECT maps in ArcGIS

4.2.1 Development of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the study area

Following steps are followed

Step-1: Download available DEM data using the USGS-earth Explorer website.

o Select the area which needs to download SRTM data by providing Address/Place
name, Latitude/longitude.
o Select the dataset category then digital elevation to SRTM.
o Select Sub Category-SRTM-1Arc-Second global then click on the result.
o Select Product-SRTM and download all GeoTIFF files.
o After downloading all DEM tiles of the study area, and then view these DEM datasets
into ArcGIS
Click on Yes every time)

Step-2: DEM data using ArcGIS

o Data management tools > Raster > Raster Dataset > Mosaic to New Raster
o Insert study area shape file > symbol selector > hollow
o Study area hollow shape file > Spatial analysis tool > Extraction > Extract by mask
Write 1 in
Band then
Click on OK
o Insert study area shape file > symbol selector > hollow
o Study area hollow shape file > Spatial analysis tool > Extraction > Extract by mask
4.2.2 Slope Map
Following steps are considered to prepare the slope map in ArcGIS.

Step-1: Insert study area DEM file > Spatial analysis tool > Surface > Slope

Step-2: Reclassify tool is applied from the property, symbology for the reclassification of
value in less classes.
