Introduction
It has been shown that health professionals experience high levels of stress and
depression, related to the high pressure and the handling of complex situations, and a
nursing students, we find a doubly risky situation as they are both health professionals
and students. The academic workload, especially clinical practice, has been identified
as the main source of stress in nursing students, followed by financial and family issues
methods, which combine clinical practice with putting the competencies acquired into
practice [14]. According to the results obtained by McCarthy et al. in their study of
academic stress, they identified these main stress factors: the academic environment,
exams, activities and projects, and, more specifically, meeting deadlines and the
their exams, the large number of students in the classrooms, boring lectures, and
feeling doubted by professors were all identified as sources of stress [13]. Suicidal
ideation and lower psychological wellbeing are also associated with academic stress .
The association between stress and psychiatric morbidities has been widely studied
with tools such as the General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), which provides a
simple method of collecting information on different health problems that could allow us
to study the potential effects of stress on psychological well-being [18]. Studying the
academic stress factors possibly associated with mental health disorders could provide

health while identifying those students suffering from mental health disorders.
training and development of future nurses. While previous studies have explored
countries they have given little attention to comparing nursing students with their
non-nursing student peers. The present study investigated the difference between the
nursing student and non-nursing student and the first and second year nursing student
longitudinal study carried out in Spain and Chile. We used Strengthening the Reporting
university was: 319 (23.5%) from UdL, 387 (28.5%) from UdG, 491 (36.2%) from URV,
and 161 (11.9%) from UFRO. The median age of the nursing students was 21 years
(IQR 3.0), and almost 85% of them were between 18 and 24 years old. Differences in
age between the academic years were relevant, as age increases with each academic
year. Regarding the access route to tertiary studies and to the participating universities,
this study showed that the differences between programs were statistically significant.
Therefore, subsequent analyses exploring mental health were carried out separately by
The problem was to investigate the psychological factors affecting the 1st and 2nd Year
nursing students of University of Iloilo; This Study was designed to determine what are
the characteristics factors present on identifying the problems that affect the subjects.
Significance of the Study
The main intention of this research aims to provide crucial information and knowledge
with regards to the chosen topic from the respondents. The principal purpose of this
study is to provide the students (First and second year) and faculty of PHINMA-
University of Iloilo a basic knowledge and awareness of the student's mental health and
its impact towards their academic performance. This study will serve as a basis in the
assessment towards themselves and the maintenance of their mental health and
well-being. It will help them discover things that they could do to handle their depression
or Any possible mental health disorder. Will also help in improving their performances at
school which is their main stressor and also the student's physical health. This could
also help the faculty in their assessment towards the student counseling. This will help
reduce their workload. And to enlighten them with accurate things that they could do to
performance of 1st and 2nd year Nursing Students in PHINMA UI. The data collection
will be conducted to randomly selected students In PHINMA UI S.Y 2023-2024 who will
be present in the population. This study will not cover other problems that are not
considered as one of the stressor and depressants. Each of the respondents of this
study will not be used as a measure to the effects of psychological well-being of the
Nursing Student to the academic performance of the students who do not belong to the
population of this study. The main source of data will be the Survey form questionnaires
To perceive the findings from our participant study, participants are an appropriate
research tool to find out the, attitudes, awareness, knowledge, behavior, and stressors
concerning the things that affect the mental health and psychological well-being of
student nurses, a quantitative study was conducted on a sample of first and second
year nursing students, a total of 50 individuals from the University of Illinois. The results
of the survey forms will be graphed to conclude the final statistics of the sample data of
our study.
Research Design
A case study was conducted among the tertiary level of the University of Iloilo. During
the period of the 3rd week of March 2023, fifty were chosen in total for participation,
which is 25 1st year students and 25 2nd year students available at that time of data
collection.
Validity and reliability of the instrument:
The instrument was validated by giving copies to the educators in the department of
Health Sciences for their comments. The paper was later given to the research
The study was carried out at the University of Iloilo, which is the main camp that is
Each student was given a survey questionnaire in the form of a Google Form to answer,
which held 10 questions regarding mental health, stressors, and coping strategies. The
questionnaire is divided into 3 sections: the question and the answer, and the results we
got from those questions, which we then graph to form statistical data, followed by their
feedback while using a Likert scale to know how they feel about the interview.
Data analysis
Data was compiled in an Excel spreadsheet and analyzed using SPSS version 22
software. The chi-squared test was employed for identifying statistical differences
between categorical variables to compare mean scores of 1st year male and female
students to 2nd year male and female students, and one way ANOVA to compare mean
scores. Correlation rules were applied to measure the strength of relations. Results
were obtained and compared to those in the previous articles to evaluate and conclude.
A 5-point Likert scale was used to determine the attitude of the participants of the study
