III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings

“Good morning class” “Good morning, Sir!”

“Please arrange your chairs first and pick up (Students do as told.)

some trashes under it.”

2. Prayer
(Jona starts to pray.)
“Jona kindly lead the prayer”

3. Checking of Attendance Classroom Secretary: “Okay Sir.”

“Classroom secretary, kindly list the

absentees in a ¼ sheet of paper and give it to
me after the class.”

4. Passing of Assignments

“Do you have any assignments?” “No sir”

5. Recalling of Previous Lesson

“Since none, who can recall what was our (David raises his hand)
previous topic all about?”

“Okay David” “Our previous topic was all about

Sentences.”
“Very Good! So, our previous
s topic was all about Sentences. What then is (No one raises their hands)
a sentence?”

“Since no one is raising their hands, I will call “Uh umm, a sentence is a set of words
someone. Okay, Jessica, what is a that contains a subject and a predicate.”
sentence?”
“Excellent. So, sentence is a set of words that
is typically contains a subject and predicate.”

B. Lesson Proper
a. Activity/Motivation

“Before we jump on our discussion for today,

let’s have first an activity.”

“Group yourself into 3.” (Students do as told)

“After that, go to your respective groups.” (Students goes to their respective

groups)

“Who among you here loves to solve (Some students raise their hands)
puzzles?”

“Wow, guess like some of you loves solving

problems.”

“Okay, I have here some crossword puzzles (Students start on doing their activity)
with a twist. In the puzzle I want you to identify
what was the words that the riddles wanted to
imply within 3 mins and then pass it to me coz
I will be the one checking it”
C. Presentation of the Lesson

“Based on our activity earlier, what do you think is (Angela raises her hand)
our new topic for today?”
“I think our topic for today sir is all about
riddles?”
“Hmm.. you’ve got a point.”

“Another” (David raises his hand)

“I think our topic for today sir is all about

the meaning of words?”

“Okay very good”

“So, our topic for today is all about the role of

context in defining words.”

“But before anything else class, let us know first

what is context?”

”Who among you here can define what is the word

“context”?”

“May I call Elysha. In your own idea, what is a “uhm context sir is the situation where
context for you?” you are in”

“very good!”

“A context class is the circumstances that form the

setting for an event, statement, or idea. So in
simple terms, context means the settings of a
word or event.”

“and guys, there are different things that will be “No sir”
considered that could affect the meaning of the
words. Do you know what are those class?”

“There are 3 examples or context clues that could

affect the meaning of the words class. These are
Synonyms, homonyms and the ambiguity.”

“So who knows what is a synonym?” “Synonym is a word that has the same
meaning with the other word.”

“Very good! so, synonym class is a word or phrase

that has the same or almost the same meaning as
another word or phrase.” (No one answered)
“What about Homonyms? Who knows what is a
homonym?”
“uhh umm.. I think homonym is a word
“Adelle, for you, what do you think is a that is the same spelling but different
homonym?” meaning sir.”

“Very Good!”

“So, a homonym is a word that is said or spelled

the same way as another word but has a different
meaning.”

“Then an ambiguity is an example of the fact of

something having more than one possible
meaning and therefore possibly causing
confusion”

Objectives:
1. Define how context influences the
“Before anything else and before we go deep into meaning of words and phrases.
our discussion. These are our lesson objectives 2. Determine and not make judgments
that you are going to achieve at the end of the about the uses of the words in different
lesson. Everybody read.” contexts.
3. Create an own example of how context
affects the definition of words.

D. Discussing New Concepts & Skills.

(The teacher will post some pictures)

“They are arguing sir.”

“What do you think is happening in the picture

class?” “They are arguing sir whether the letter is
“M” or “W”, and the number is “6” or “9.”
“Arguing about what?”
(Jessica raises her hand)
“Okay very good”

“So based on the picture presented, why it is

so very important to acknowledge and not
make any judgements everyone’s perspective (Albert raises his hand)
when defining something.”
“It is very important sir because we don’t
“Another hand” know what the symbols or words means
to them and also, we have different
“Okay Albert” perspectives sir to the things that we see
in life.”

“Understood sir!”
“Very Good! Clap your hands for Albert.”

“So, class it is very important to acknowledge

and not make any judgments when you are to
define something because each one of us
have different perspectives and perceptions
on things. Understood class?”
(Students starts on working their tasks)
E. Discussing new concepts & skills #2

“Now that you all know we have different

perspective and perceptions in defining
something. In your group I want you to make
at least 2 meaning of the words that I will be
going to give to you and then make an
example out of it. After that, choose a
representative who’ll be going to present your
work. Does my instructions were clear or not?”

“Very Good. SO, for group 1 the words are

Bat, crane, bark; for group 2 the words are
line, wave, point; for group 3 the words are “No Sir!”
can, seal, nail.”

“Are you done?” “Yes Sir!”

“Yes Sir”
“Is it done?”
(Group 1 starts to present their answers)
“Guess like it’s time to present your works.
Group 1 are you ready?” (Students clap their hands)

“Very Good group 1, make a round of “Yes Sir”

applause for group 1.”
(Group 2 starts to present their answers)
“Next is group 2, are you ready?”
(Students clap their hands)
“Very Good group 2, make a round of
applause for group 2.” “Yes Sir”

(Group 2 starts to present their answers)

Next is last group, group 3, are you ready?”

(Students clap their hands)

”Very Good group 3, make a round of (Some students say yes some says no)
applause for group 3.”

“Good job everyone! Now let’s make a

barangay clap. Do you know how to do a
barangay clap”?

“Okay guess like some of you don’t know how (Students follows)
to execute it I will teach you how.”
(Students execute it)
(Teacher demonstrates the execution)

“Now that you all know how to execute it, let’s

have a barangay clap.”

F. Generalization “Context is the circumstances that form

“Now let’s have a recap. the setting for an event, statement, or
idea.”
“What is a context?”

“Why it is very important to not make any (Timothy stood) (Timothy answers)
judgements when defining something?” “uh- er, uhmm.. Can you repeat the
questions Sir?”
“Timothy, why it is very important?”
“uh uhmm It is very important sir to be
fair and not make any judgements
whether what kind of idea or perspective
“Why is it very important to not make any that the other person has because all of
judgements when defining something?” us have different idea and perception on
things sir.”

“Synonym is a word or phrase that has

the same or almost the same meaning as
another word or phrase.”
“What is a synonym?”
“A homonym is a word that is said or
spelled the same way as another word
but has a different meaning.”
“What is a homonym?”
“Okay Very Good”

(Group 3 starts on reading their poem)
