The document discusses the challenges that Grade 12 students in the General Academic Strand face in taking the Research in Daily Life 1 subject at Naga College Foundation, Inc. It cites several studies that found common challenges like difficulties with the research process, time management, lack of guidance, and linguistic barriers. The study aims to identify the specific challenges experienced by G12 GAS students and how the subject can be improved. It will use a phenomenological approach involving student interviews and narratives.

RATIONALE OF THE STUDY

According to Sanchez et. al (2023) states that kids develop their critical thinking skills and
learn how to use information to make decisions. They rely on data-driven decision-making,
which is made possible by junior high schools' so-called research cultures. Notwithstanding
the advantages of research, participants encounter several obstacles such as the intricacies
and duration of the study, costs and inadequate funding, disobedient teammates or
problems in groups, certain inexperienced educators, pressure on certain students,
insufficient experience, and duplication of tasks. Lucas et. al (2021) findings show that three
crucial factors help students produce high-quality research products: "guidance from
someone passionate about research," as demonstrated by their research critique, research
teacher, resource speaker from the seminar, and group members; "guidance from
something or activities conducted," such as the worksheets completed, research defenses,
and sample researches in the library; and "teamwork" among the group members.
However, "clash of ideas and unequal effort" among the participants, "time-consuming for
some of the written works," and "no review of related literature" when library hopping are
some of the key areas that are least helpful. Moreover, Gupta and Bhadauria (2022) show
an epistemological shift was signaled by the recognition of the connection between learning
engagement processes and challenges, which prompted them to approach senior high
school research with a thorough methodology. Senior high school students will assist them
in navigating the process, addressing their challenges in carrying out research and how
they may view financial issues as obstacles. It gives them very concrete insights into what
teachers may do to improve student engagement. Furthermore, disengaged students are
not learning. Salde and Mamaoang (2021) Improving research capacity is essential to
raising the standard of instruction. To feel confident and competent when teaching
research-based courses, senior high school teachers must possess certain abilities and
competencies in research-based teaching. improved research capacity to create
researchable topics and apply suitable research procedures for data collection in science
investigatory projects. SHS instructors could excel in the field of research-based education
if they were provided with opportunities, financing, research facilities, and other forms of
support for activities related to research. The study concludes that pupils are also facing
some difficulties that need quick attention and thought. The study advises SHS students to
have complete support and guidance during their difficult research journey. Furthermore,
Meijia and Renato (2020) reveal that Senior High School Teachers possess highly
acceptable learning competencies in research. However, respondents demonstrated
competence in the relevant learning competencies. When instructors conducted a study,
time management emerged as a major issue that they faced. The best method for
addressing the issues teachers have when instructing research is cooperative learning.
Pramodini (2022) stated that research is important in education as the findings of research
can lead to adjustments in methodology or procedures. This would ultimately result in pupils
receiving suitable education, resulting in a more effective/efficient population. Senior High
School students face many difficulties and obstacles while preparing and completing
research proposals and projects. The primary reason for this study is to address the
common challenges that Grade 12 GAS students face in taking subject Research in Daily
Life 1. According to Qasem and Zayid (2019), conducting research is a difficult process that
calls for in-depth subject knowledge, careful planning, and a great extent of effort. Lestari
(2020) discovered that the biggest challenges students encounter when writing a thesis are
connected to their still-limited and subpar English language skills. Both have emerged as
the primary factor hindering them from effectively developing their writing thesis. To solve
this, students should try to keep their problems to a minimum and work on their English so
that it is at least passable before writing a thesis. When writing their thesis, they should use
their time carefully. Read additional articles that are pertinent to their research. Focus more
on avoiding plagiarism. It is advised that additional researchers conduct comparable studies
and supplement the data with additional research tools, such as interviewing guidelines.
Puspita (2019) also determined that the greatest challenges English students experience
are linguistic in nature. Cooper et al. (2020) stated that depression is also one of the factors
affecting the performance of students in writing research projects. This includes productivity,
creativity and risk-taking, engagement and focus, and self-perception and socialization in
undergraduate research activities. Students' social ties, failure in research, obtaining aid,
receiving feedback, and the demands of research all had an impact on their depression.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

What challenges does Grade 12-Gas students experience during their research subject?

How can the grade 12 gas students describe their experiences in taking a research subject?

Is there any other reason why it is necessary for the Grade 12 GAS students to study the
research subject?
FRAMEWORK OF THE STUDY
Theoretical Lens Decision Making Theory: Process, Models and Stages by Sunaina Kura,
(2020) This theory explains that one definition of decision making is that it is "typically
defined as a process or sequence of activities involving stages of problem recognition,
information search, alternative definition, and selection of an actor from two or more
alternatives consistent with the ranked preferences." There are numerous others because
the decision-making process is utilized in a variety of sectors, each with its own practical
definition. Making decisions is similar to making concessions. This is due to the fact that
while choosing one option, you must compromise on some of the possibilities. One must
take care while making judgments to avoid upsetting the balance between authority and
policy. Therefore, when formulating decisions or policies, policymakers must compromise
and modify their methods. A logical and well-informed decision should be made by the
decision-maker. They must take into account the requirements for starting the process, the
effects of execution, and the viability of the proposed policy.

METHODOLOGY
The researchers will use phenomenology and narrative was used in this study. According to
Neville Greening.(2019) The phenomenological research methodology relates to several
approaches that in turn, they are applied to single cases or to the deliberate samples that
are carefully chosen. It is easier to identify issues that show discrepancies, failures,
favorable inferences, and attention to distinct situations while conducting management
research (Groenewald, 2004 pg. 87). Clark Moustak as theoretical underpinnings of
phenomenology guide the reader through the process of how to manage a
phenomenological study step-by- step. And so, this provides more in-depth insights on the
successful phenomenological studies from distinct contexts, including the field of
healthcare, therapy, psychology, victimology, as well as investigations involving gender.
While conducting a phenomenological research methodology, it often pertains the four
necessary steps of Bracketing, Intuiting, Analyzing and Describing. It is a well-known
research strategy that is widely applied in a range of fields, The research employed the first
person accounts of grade 12 general academic strand students at Naga College
Foundation, inc. To determine how students take research in daily life 1. Taking into
account the synthesis of the participant's experiences and the examination of their
narratives, a qualitative approach was utilized to explore and describe how grade 12
general academic strand students at Naga College Foundation, inc. Take research in daily
life 1.
