Activity 4.1

4.2 : Presentation Activity As you have learned during this level 4, one of the
most challenging structure in English grammar is the Reported Speech, that why
we decide that this last activity will be based in this structure, because remember
that “practice makes perfect”

A) WRITE THESE SENTENCES IN REPORTED SPEECH.

1.- ' I'll see you tomorrow, ' she said. SHE SAID SHE WOULD SEE YOU THE DAY
AFTER TOMORROW

2.- 'I saw her today,' he said. He saw her today

3.- ' I don't like this film,' she said. She didn't like that film

4.- He said, ' We went swimming today.' wego swimming today

5.- ' I met her about three months ago,' he said. he has met her about three
mon ths ago

6.- ' Pete and Sue are getting married tomorrow,' she said. Pete and sue were
getting married tomorrow
7.- 'I haven't read these books yet,' he said. He hadn't read those books yet

8.- ' I was driving my car yesterday,' she said. He has bee driving his Car
yesterday

9.- 'I can see you tomorrow,' he said yesterday. He couldn't see You today

10.- ' I didn't drive home after the party, I was too drunk,' she said. She hasn't
driven Home after the party

11.- 'I have something to show you', I said to her. Tat i had something to show

B) WRITE THESE QUESTIONS IN REPORTED SPEECH.

1.- 'Do you like Marlon Brando ?,' she asked. SHE ASKED IF YOU LIKED MARLON BRANDO

2.- 'Are you enjoying yourself ?,' he asked. He asked if I was enjoying myself.

3.- 'Does your father work here ?,' she asked her. She asked where her fathers work.

4.- 'Are you a foreigner ?,' he asked me. He asked me if I were a foreign

6.- 'Did you invite Pete and Judith?,' I asked him. I asked if him had invited thems.

9.- 'Were you playing with my computer ?,' she asked us. She asked us if we were playing the
computer.

10.-' Is my father living in London?,' she asked my mother. She asked my mother if my father lived in

C) INTERROGATIVAS CON IF.

1.- "Does this car belong to you?" a policeman told me.


A policeman told me if that car belonged to you.

2.- "Do you really want to buy this magazine?" her friend asked her.
Her friend asked her if she wanted to buy that magazine.

3.- "Was the train late?" she asked him.


She asked him if the train is late.

4.- "Is he American or English?" he wanted to know.


He wanted to know if he was American or English.

5.- "Can you lend me ten pounds?" I asked him.


I asked him if he could lend me ten pounds

6.- "May I use your telephone?" she asked him.


She asked him if he could use his phone.

7.- Do you like English cheese?" she asked us.


She asked us if we like English cheese.

8.- He said, "Is John here?"

9.- She said, "Do you want any dinner or not?


She asked him whether you wanted dinner or not.

10.- "Did he tell you?”, she told him.

11.- "Have you been to England before?" he asked me.

13.- Susan asked me, "Did you see the film on TV?"
He asked me if I had seen the movie on TV.

14.- "Have you ever been to the USA?", the man asked Sue.
The man asked Sue if she had ever been to the United States.

15.- "Can you help me?" the woman asked Bill.


The woman asked Bill if she could help me.

16.- She asked me, "Does your dog stick his head in cupboards?"
She asked me if the dog stuck his head in the cupboards.

17.- The policeman asked, "Is the dog barking now?"


The policeman asked if the dog was barking now.

18.- I asked my mum, "Will I have to clean the hamster's cage tomorrow?"
I asked my mum if she would have to clean the hamster cage tomorrow.

19.- "Can I use your phone to make a local call?" she asked me.
She asked me if I could use his phone to make a local call.

20.- "Do you know where Angela is living?" he asked me.


He asked me if I knew where Angela lives.
D) WRITE THESE WH-QUESTIONS IN REPORTED SPEECH.

1.- 'What's your name ?,' he asked me.


HE ASKED ME WHAT HER NAME WAS.
2.- 'How old is your father ?,' my teacher asked him. My teacher asked him how old
my father was.
3.- 'When does the train leave ?,' I asked. I asked when the train leaves.
4.- 'Who did you see at the meeting?,' my mother asked her. My mother asked her
who you saw at the meeting.
5.- 'Why did you take my wallet?,' she asked me. She asked me why you took his
wallet.
6.- 'How did you get to school?,' the boy asked Mary. The boy asked Mary how you
got to school.
7.- 'What time does the plane arrive?,' they asked the manager. They asked the
manager what time the plane would arrive.
8.- 'Why are you so late?,' my teacher asked me. The teacher asked me why I was
late.
9.- 'Where did you go in Japan?,' I asked my father. I asked my father if he had
gone to Japan.
10.- 'What are you doing with our books?,' they asked us. They asked us what we
had with their books.
11.- 'Why are you looking through the keyhole?,' I said. I said him because I was
looking through the keyhole.
12.- 'Who put salt in my coffee?,' he asked. He asked who had put salt in his coffee.
13.- 'Which of you knows how to make Irish coffee?,' said the chief cook. The chief
cook asked if any of us knew how to make Irish coffee
14.- 'Why did you travel first class?,' I asked him. I asked him why they had traveled

15.- 'How can I possibly run in these high-heeled shoes?,' she inquired. She inquired
if it was possible for them to run in high-heeled shoes.
16.- 'What is your new house like?,' I asked them. I asked them what your new
home looked like.
17.- He said, 'Where am I supposed to go now?.' He said where I was supposed to
go.
18.- 'Whose car did you borrow last night?,' I said to him. I said to him whose car it
was borrowed from last night.
19.- 'What was she wearing when you saw her?,' the policeman asked me. The
policeman asked me what she was wearing when I saw her.
20.- 'Who owns this revolver?,' said the det. The det said who was the owner of
that revolver.
