MALABON CITY

ACTIVE CASE FINDING

Recognizing the challenges posed by undiagnosed cases, ACF Activities are conducted in partnership with USAID TB
Platforms and PBSP ACCESS TB Project. Using the primary tool in diagnosing TB through symptom screening, chest
Xray and Gene-Xpert test which we bring closer and accessible to the community. The said activity aims to cater for a
minimum of 150 screened individuals, which is scheduled at least twice a month. Patients with positive TB results are
referred to their respective health centers for further evaluation and appropriate treatment.
FAST PLUS
Orientation of 21 health centers and 1 LGU-owned hospital for the implementation of FAST plus through more
systematic screening, rapid testing and efficient enrollment to TB treatment and care. FAST plus encompasses and
emphasizes efficient triaging, early recognition and source control, access to TB diagnostics and patient-centered
support.

TPT
TB Preventive Treatment is being implemented in Malabon City with the help of USAID TB Platforms. Thorough
contact tracing is carried out to identify individuals who may have been exposed to TB and require testing. This
approach helps in curbing the transmission of the disease within communities. Household close contacts eligible for
TPT will be provided medicines, treatment records and treatment partner. USAID TB Platforms have also previously
provided a nurse to carry out PPD testing of contacts.

MDR TB
Malabon City is actively involved in addressing cases of drug-resistant TB within the local community with the help of
PBSP ACCESS TB Project. The health staff of iDOTS facilities were trained for the Phase II implementation through
their support. The partners ensure the availability of second line anti TB drugs, on top of providing for the diagnostics
prior to treatment initiation and supports the implementation of adverse drug safety monitoring for these cases.

TB ORDINANCE
The USAID URC provided technical support in drafting the TB ordinance in Malabon City. While this has yet to be
approved, they continuously follow-up with regards to the inclusion of the ordinance in the Local Health Board for
discussion.
