Tips on How to Write a Diary Entry

Always mention the date

Choose a corner to dedicate to noting the dates that you write in your diary. Perhaps you don't
write every day. Certain individuals also specify the exact moment and location. Once more, it
comes down to personal taste. Given that most people keep diaries for extended periods of
time, it's advisable to establish and adhere to a general format for your diary entries. Since no
one is watching, you are free to experiment and make a few changes. For me, the top left is
where I would put the date.

Choose a subject

Generally, there's a purpose behind reaching out to write a diary entry, just like with a chapter.
For instance, you might write about what happened that day, write about something you want
to accomplish in the future, or simply record an occasion that made you feel strongly, like
happiness, rage, excitement, etc. But your diary entry will have a topic based on whatever you
chose to write about in your journal.

Voice

Now, we always address our entries in the first person. If you want, you can give it a name.
Usually, people address their diary entries as – “Dear Diary”

Be honest, it’s you who are talking to

A diary entry's most important quality is that it is always honest, organic, and free-flowing.
Hence, for fear of being observed or criticized, trust your thought process and don't pause or
censor yourself. Don't hold back; this is your space to express yourself completely.

Make it a habit

Personally, I believe you just need to remind yourself of this one as you start wri ng. It
eventually turns into this automa c friend that you reach out to. Keeping a diary will usually
be highly therapeu c for you. It's amazing how, when all the feelings are expressed,
some mes the conclusions are fairly clear-cut and go in a construc ve path. As though you
already knew the answers to your own queries. To see it, all you needed to do was clear the
misty clouds of emo ons.
More ps to follow:-

 It should be written in chronological order.

 The day, date, place, and time of entry in the diary should be included.
 A suitable descriptive heading or some hints about the topic written about may be included.
 The main body of the diary should ‘be written in a comprehensive manner giving a precise
yet complete description of an event, a place, or a person.
 It should express the writer’s point of view and lay stress on feelings and emotions rather
than on the event itself.
 It should be personalised and written in the first person and maybe in the past tense.
 The writing should be informative as it is a spontaneous piece of writing.
 A signature at the end of the day’s diary entry can be given to authenticate it, and for future
