PR2 Chapter 1-5-1
INTRODUCTION
Discipline is the key to attain and achieved our goals in life. We as a future educators, discipline and
academic performance are the core in today’s education. While in students learning, discipline has a very
important role in the life of every individual. Discipline is also the ability to control on our feelings
and do right thing at right time as well as overcome the weaknesses of every individual. Life without
Discipline in academic performance of the SHS students is one of the most important key in education.
Students must know the importance of discipline into their academic performance and how can affect and
influence it into their studying. Descriptive behavior is one of the concern in schools and parents, and to
the fellow students whose education may be affected. Lack of discipline is called indiscipline, it is a any
form of misbehavior which a student can display in several ways (dis-obedience, destruction of school
property, poor attitudes to learning, immoral behavior, drug abuse, stealing, and so on…. ). According to
gitome et al., where there is good discipline, there is improved academic performance.
Learners should have a right discipline, and they should know what are the impact of discipline role to
their academic performance, because discipline is a self-improvement practice. In other word, discipline is
This study generally centers itself on the impact of discipline role to the academic performance of the SHS
students in colegio de las navas laboratory high school, specifically it will seek to;
performance.
The students have a different behavior based on how their parents educate them, but then the school should
trained and teach students to become a better one, when it is all about disciplined behavior. The

significance of this study is to determine what is the importance of discipline, what are the impact of
discipline and how it affect to the academic performance of the SHS students.

In figure 1. Discipline role as independent variable is an essential element in any educational institution,
it also plays a vital role in the acquisition of sense of responsibility in learners as well as educators.
Discipline in school is a very important aspect towards academic excellence of the students. This improves
the character of the students and they become strong as well as reliant. Discipline even develops the
analytical skills of the students. So, they can exploit their skills.
Another variable, academic performance is the extent to which student has achieved in their short or long-
term educational goals. Commonly measured through examinations or continuous assessments but there is no
general agreement on how it is best evaluates. Academic performance have linked to differences in

I. Related literature
The literature reveals that student indiscipline is experienced in schools globally (Ali et al.,

& Bayaga, 2014; Omote et al., 2015; Rahimi & Karkami, 2015; Yahaya et al., 2009). A study in West
Virginia
in the United States of America (USA) revealed that about 29.6% of 160,480 students (from grade 3
to 11) had
one or more referrals for inappropriate behaviors (Whisman & Hammer, 2014). In Africa, researchers
have
pointed out the seriousness of indiscipline in schools in various countries. The countries include
Ghana (Gyan,
Baah-Korang, Mccarthy, & Mccarthy, 2015), South Africa (Marais & Meier, 2010; Masitsa, 2008),
Botswana
(Garegae , 2008), Nigeria (Okiemute ,2011; Nakpodia, 2010: Umezinwa & Elendu ,2012), and Tanzania
(Yaghambe & Tshabangu ,2013). Umezinwa and Elendu for instance, observed that indiscipline among
learners
in Nigeria was high and experienced at all levels including primary schools. In Kenya, lack of
discipline in
schools has been one of the challenges facing schools (Njoroge & Nyabuto , 2014). The Kenya
National
Examinations Council (KNEC) revealed that between 90% and 100% of teachers in primary schools in

Despite having these standards in place, the result of this study and it's precedecessor (Whisman

II. Research Design
This study was made by the means of quantitative methods of
researcher. The researcher attempted to get the answer to the
aforementioned problem and to justify and satisfy the
objectives of the study.Likewise,it also attempted to know the
impact of discipline role to the academic performance of the
SHS Students.
According to Sis International research (n.d.) Quantitative
research is a structured way of collecting and analyzing data
obtained from different sources.Quantitative research involves
the use of computational, statistical and mathematical tools
to derive results. It is conclusive in its purpose as it tries
to quantity the problem and understand how prevalent it is by
looking for projectable results to a larger population.
III. Variables of the study
The Independent variables of the study will include the
name, age, sex, civil status of the respondents of this
study, while the dependent variables of this study will be the
Impact of discipline to the Academic performance of the
students.
IV. Population and sampling
The target population of the study involves SHS student. Using
the formula’s the researchers calculated the sample size. The
researchers got 20 as the sample size. Hence, in answering the
questionnaire 20 students answered questionnaire are expected
to return.
Among the specific random/probability sampling techniques, the
study used simple random sampling to determine the
respondents. This sampling was used to ensure a fairly equal
selection on the population size and in accordance to the
requirements of the research study.
V. Respondents of the study
The target respondents of this study will include all senior
high school students both Grade 11 and Grade 12 level.Complete
Enumeration approach are used, there are be a total of 20
participants for this study,10 Students from Grade 11 and
another 10 students from Grade 12.
VI. Research Instrument
7
This study utilized a questionnaires through Online Survey to
gather data,The Researchers decided to distribute the
questionnaire to the Selected Senior high school students
through Online Survey in a formal way by giving a personal
message to the Selected Students.
VII. Scoring and Interpretation of Data
The following are the interpretation of the study for the
profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, and academic
performance.Frequency counts with their frequency percentage
will need.
For the effect of discipline role to the Academic performance
of the study,4 degree of quality will be used.4 strongly
agree,3 agree,2 disagree,1 strongly disagree.The weighted mean
will be computed.
VIII. Data Gathering
Questionnaires in Form of rating scales through Online Survey
are used to collect data on the Impact of discipline to the
Academic performance of the Selected Students.Since it's a
Christmas Break the researcher decided to choose online survey
to collect data from the SHS students, and ask them a
permission to answer the questionnaire through Online
communication. Then the Researchers personally message and
administer the questionnaires to the respondents through
Online Survey.
The data will be retrieved, consolidated, tabulated, analyzed and
will be interpreted using the appropriate statistic tools.
IX. Statistical treatment of data:
The information was analyzed using descriptive and inferential
statistics. Descriptive statistics (e. g frequencies, mean)
help to describe and understand the features of the specific
data by giving the sample and measures of data. It was
computed for the credibility and reliability testing of the
instruments. Computing for the Pearson product moment
coefficient of correlation (r) and t-value was applied to the
data in measuring the significant relationship between the two
variables. The results were then presented tables for easiness
of understanding and analysis.
