About Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) www.sciencecongress.nic.in

The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) is one of India's most prestigious and influential scientific organizations. It owes
its origin to the foresight and initiative of two British Chemists, namely, Professor J. L. Simonsen and Professor P.S. MacMahon. It
occurred to them that scientific research in India might be stimulated if an annual meeting of research workers somewhat on
the lines of the British Association for the Advancement of Science could be arranged.
From this modest beginning in 1914 with 105 members and 35 papers communicated for reading at the first session, ISCA has
grown into a strong fraternity with more than 60000 members till date. There are now 14 sections namely Agriculture and
Forestry Sciences, Animal, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences (including Archaeology
and Psychology & Educational Sciences), Chemical Sciences, Earth System Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Environmental
Sciences, Information and Communication Science & Technology (including Computer Sciences), Material Sciences,
Mathematical Sciences (including Statistics), Medical Sciences (including Physiology), New Biology (including Biochemistry,
Biophysics & Molecular Biology and Biotechnology), Physical Sciences, Plant Sciences and one Committee Science & Society.

About 109th Indian Science Congress

The Global Perspective on Science and Technology for Sustainable Future
It is estimated that by 2050, the world's population is expected to reach approximately 9 billion. With the natural resources
steadily exhausting, the importance of science being able to find a solution is more vital now. The role of science and technology
in building sustainable development to fight against the challenges posed by man-made climate change is truly imperative at
this stage. It is important that innovations in Science and Technology be integrated into public policy goals, giving particular
focus to the nexus between science, technology, culture, education and development. The 109th ISC will discuss the role of
science and technology in building solutions for a sustainable future around the world. Further, it will deliberate on ways to
increase science and technology- based initiatives globally.
