1) According to Bougie and Sekaran (2020), list the 6 factors affecting the decision of sample size.

(20
points)

Bougie and Sekaran (year) explore a range of elements that impact the determination of sample size in
research inside their book titled "Research Methods for Business: A Skill Building Approach."

Desired level of confidence: The degree of confidence required in the study results has a direct impact
on the determination of the appropriate sample size.

Degree of variability in the population: A greater degree of diversity or variation within a population
necessitates an increase in the necessary sample size.

Acceptable margin of error: The decision of sample size is influenced by the acceptable margin of error
in the obtained findings.

Cost and time constraints: The determination of sample size may be influenced by practical constraints,
such as the availability of financial resources and the time allocated for data collecting.

Nature of the analysis: The sample size needed might be influenced by the sophistication of the analytic
methods used.

Research objectives: The decision of sample size may be influenced by the particular objectives of the
research and the level of accuracy required for the investigation..

2) A popular car company wants to calculate the mean 0-60 acceleration in their new model of cars.
Researchers took a sample of 250 cars and found the average 0-60 rate to be 5 seconds with a standard
deviation of 1.5 seconds. Calculate the standard error of the mean. Show all work. (Round to 2 decimal
places). (20 points) *You must show work. Failing to do so will result in points deducted*

solution:

sampling distribution of standard deviation

= / n = 1.5/ 250

standard error= = 0.09 rounded

3) Find the following information for the given data set. (20 points)

93, 61, 31, 74, 12, 71, 50, 66

a. Mean (show all work for credit)

Mean (Average): In order to get the mean, it is necessary to aggregate all numerical values and then
divide the sum by the entire count.

Sum of all numbers = 93 + 61 + 31 + 74 + 12 + 71 + 50 + 66 = 458 Count of numbers = 8

Mean = Sum of all numbers / Count of numbers Mean = 458 / 8 Mean = 57.25

b. Median

Median = 63.5

c. Mode

The mode refers to the numerical value that occurs with the highest frequency within a given dataset.

In the above scenario, there is an absence of any recurring numbers, hence resulting in the
absence of a mode.

d. Range (show all work for credit)

The range of a dataset is determined by calculating the difference between the greatest and smallest
values inside the dataset.

Range = Largest number - Smallest number Range = 93 - 12 Range = 81

4) Calculate the standard deviation of the given data set below. Up to 2 decimal places. (Show all
work!) (20 points)

Number of PTO days taken by employees

Jackso Mik
Sarah Jamal Lucia Jamie Jesus Keisha Fatima Nguyen
n e

5 11 6 2 10 1 8 4 7 9

Sample mean ( overline x )= (54i)/n = 47/8 = 5.875

Sample Standard deviation (s)= sqrt sum(xi- overline x )^ 2 n-1 = sqrt(90.875/(8 - 1))

S = 3.6
5) Label what each of the following items are for parameters and statistics (20 points)

Statistics

X̄ - Sample mean (average)

S - Sample standard deviation.

S2 - Sample variance.

Parameters

μ - Population mean (average).

σ - Population standard deviation.

σ2 - Population variance.

Bonus (5 points)

1) A few lectures back, Professor Augustin showed an example of a simulation; a video of a popular
celebrity who experienced shopping in a supermarket. What's the name of the celebrity?
