(Session: 2023-24)

BCE-302: Surveying & Geomatics

Unit No. & Name: IV-Photogrammetric Course Outcome: CO4-Relate and apply
Survey principles of
photogrammetry for
surveying.
Date of Distribution: 01 December 2023 Name of Faculty: Er. Akhil Pandey

SUBJECTIVE QUESTIONS BL
Basic terms & Definitions, scale
Q1) What do you mean by photogrammetry? Also explain the application of photogrammetry. 2
Explain the following terms:
a) Perspective Projection
b) Exposure Station
Q2) c) Fiducial Marks 2
d) Principal point
e) Nadir point

Relief displacements of a vertical photograph, height of object from relief displacement

Q3) Derive an expression to obtain scale of a vertical photograph. A vertical
photograph was taken at an altitude of 1000 m above MSL. Determine
3
the scale of photograph for terrain lying at an elevations of 100 m if the
focal length of the lens is 20 cm. [AKTU-2019-20]
Q4) Why, we provide overlap in vertical photography? And also define the term drift and crab. 2

Flight planning for aerial photography

Q5) The scale of aerial photograph is 1:10000, effective an average elevation of terrain of 500m.
The size of aerial photograph is 240mm X 240 mm. Focal length of camera lens is 20 cm.
Speed of aircraft is 180kmph, longitudinal overlap is 50% and side overlap is 25%. Determine 3
the number of photographs required to cover an area of 35 km X 25 km. Also determine
exposure interval and flight height.
Q6) Determine scale of photograph for terrain lying elevation of 60m and 200m if vertical
3
photograph was taken at altitude of 1200m. Take focal length of camera as 20cm.
Q7) A camera having focal length of 250 mm is to be used to take a vertical photograph of a
terrain having an average elevation of 2500m. At what height above the datum, the air craft 3
should fly to have a photograph at a scale of 1:6000.

Interval between exposures, crab and drift, stereoscope and stereoscopic views and parallax
Equation
Q8) Explain different types of aerial photographs with the help of diagrams. 2
Q9) Explain functions of stereoscope. What types of stereoscope are generally used into aerial
3
surveying

SUBJECTIVE QUESTIONS BL
Q10) The parallax bar reading of two points A and B having elevations 550 m and 472 m are
respectively 13.54 mm and 12.85 mm. The mean principal base of photograph is 78.4 mm. 2
Calculate the flying height of the aircraft.
Q11) Derive parallax equations for determining elevation and ground coordinates of a point.
3
[AKTU-2019-20]

SUPPLEMENTARY QUESTIONS BL
Flight planning for aerial photography
Q1) Calculate the height of a tower with relief displacement of 6mm on a vertical aerial
2
photograph. Given focal length = 15cm and distance of tower from principal point is 5cm.
Basic terms & Definitions, scale
Q2) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of vertical aerial photograph over oblique aerial
3
photograph.
