What is AP?

AP Approval Process
AP courses must be authorized by The College Board.
When teaching an AP course for the first time :
● Submit documentation showing understanding of course scope
○ Adopt Sample Syllabus or Unit Guides OR
○ Submit New or Revised Syllabus OR
○ Use a colleague’s already authorized syllabus
When teaching a previously authorized AP course :
● Administrator must renew course every year
AP teachers sign off that they will follow the CED (Course & Exam
Description)

AP teachers have the authority to adapt and modify a syllabus and
NHCS Strategic Plan Year 1 (2022-
2023)

● Fall 2023: Gained district access from College Board to receive


district -wide data

● January 2023: Began partnership with North Carolina Advanced


Placement Partnership (NC -APP)

● January & March 2023: NC -APP district wide professional


development sessions

● Began monthly school -wide PLCs for AP teachers for cross -content

Dual Enrollment at UNC-W

To be considered for admission as a Dual -Enrolled student, an


applicant must:
● be in good academic standing with their high school
● be in their junior or senior year
● have a 3.5 cumulative, weighted grade -point average (on a 4.0
scale)
Have one of the following:
● SAT score of 1170 or higher (Math & Evidence -Based Reading and
Writing)
● ACT Composite of 24 or higher
● PSAT "Test Scores" of 56 or higher (Math & Reading Only)
● PSAT "Total Scores" of 1048 or higher (Math & Evidence -Based
Reading and Writing Only)
● Pre -ACT score of 24 or higher
